Swan may return against Eagles, says Buckley

COLLINGWOOD midfielder Dane Swan remains in the mix to play against West Coast at Subiaco on Sunday.

The 2011 Brownlow medallist has not played since the Magpies lost to Essendon in round 17 after suffering a plantar fascia injury.

Swan was originally expected to miss a month but has recovered well and completed his first training session on Wednesday.

Magpies coach Nathan Buckley said although the original plan was for Swan to return against the Brisbane Lions in round 21, there was a chance he could return early.

The coach indicated Swan would have significant input into whether he was right to perform at his best.

Give him another week bucks and play him at the G against the lions for 40+ and 3 goals. The swanny of old will lead us to the flag.

If he's not playing in the guts I don't see why we have to play him, he gives us nothing really as a forward.. With Ball set to come back I'm not sure whether it's worth it! It means Swanny gets shoved in a forward pocket all game and he's not exactly the sharpest kick at goal when he does get the opportunity! Sidey/Beams/Pendles too good to lose time on ball by playing up front, plus Macaffer is on ball all game..

I know it may sound crazy and he's done great services for the club but would anyone else trade him for a late first round/early second round pick for a team who needs a mid for 2-3 years and give them the extra tilt they need? Eg Hawthorn?

I may seem crazy but he's not getting time on ball like he used to, and he's 32 next year.. Bit like Brad Sewell but better?

It would mean we lose Ball/Swan next year and we would have to blood youngsters but it gives blokes like Martin/Scharenberg/Freeman/Kennedy etc the time they really need (we all bang on about it) + another highish draft pick we get for Swan?

You're certainly not crazy my friend! I've had this thought too but at the end of the day, Swanny deserves to retire as a one-club player and we should thank him for his services. Plus he wouldn't move to another club, in his own words "then I'd have to make new friends and i'm too lazy to do that"

He is playing badly as a forward this year (actually badly in general) but he is actually generally a decent forward over his career. However I do think its guts for him or not named at all. need to give a run to the younger ones.

I am actually at a loss as to what to do, he deserves to be played but his form doesn't warrant a spot. He could switch it on at any moment though, Swan does what Swan wants to do at this stage I guess.
