West Coast and Fremantle are in the running to lure Nick Malceski to Perth from Sydney, with the Swans' ace rebounding defender delaying a decision on his future until later in the year.

Malceski, 29, will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and has told the Swans he will focus on football and wait until the season is over before he makes a choice on what is almost certain to be his last contract.

His wife is from WA and still has strong family ties here. The couple have a young child.

Melbourne are also keen.
Malceski has been in great form this year and is likely to be All-Australian this year, so will be a massive signing for any side.

Ricochet

Yeh he gains so many mtrs as well. Can't remember the exact stat but he's one of the best (if not the best) in the AFL.

Not sure why Melb would chase him at 29 though.

Mailman the 2nd

Even though he's the best offensive HBF in the game, we have enough young guys in Rampe, Johnson, Rohan and Jones that I don't think it'll matter in the long run

SydneyRox

Cant see him leaving. And would hate to see him playing for West coast.

The main sticking point seems to be contract length and I am not sure the Swans will have a lot of room to move?

As MM said we have plenty of cover coming through, but would be sad to lose him.

Its interesting, I could definitely see Eski at the Dockers, probably not so much at the Eagles. Don't think its would make a heap of sense for us to chase that hard given how we were this season..

Smith, Simpson, Jaensch and McVeigh have all been quality this season in patches. Eski would be right up there, maybe the best this season. But do we judge careers off one season? No no no ;)

Haha to be fair to you he's been a lot better than I thought, biiiig fan :P

Mailman the 2nd

Yeah I'm not sure that Malceski is the sort of player WC considering they already have Hurn as a huge kick.

That said, Freo just signed the rest of their back 6 beyond 2014, so idk

Oh please... ZDawson is the best offensive backman in the comp... ever... the end.

SydneyRox

More media anti swans banter is all it is.

Eski going nowhere.

MM said one not 4..  :P

If he goes to a WA team no doubt Eddie will want some sort of compensation for it

Ziplock

If eski got offered significantly more cash at like freo, I think he should take it.. he's had injury concerns through his career, he turns 30 in August... he can get a second premiership with sydney this year, then go to freo and help them take a shot for his 3rd :P
