Is there some sort of buy-back clause for unusual cases?

I'm sure we would just rather hang on to him for 5 years on the rookie list until/if he comes back since he's a huge talent and someone else would snap him up before us in some sort of rookie draft. (Maybe even first round)

Spite you can place Garlett on the rookie list as an "LTI" and promote an existing rookie to take his place.  This way you keep him on your list if that is what you desire.
