Club Statement regarding Beams

http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2014-10-10/pies-lions-cease-negotiations

Negotiations between the Collingwood Football Club and the Brisbane Lions over Dayne Beams ceased at 5pm on Friday evening.

Out of respect to Dayne, Collingwood worked as hard as it could to construct an equitable deal with the Lions who pursued the contracted 24 year-old All-Australian midfielder but, ultimately, didn't value him as Collingwood does.

As everyone is aware, Dayne requested a trade to Brisbane for personal reasons, something Collingwood agreed to consider as long as the outcome returned appropriate compensation.

Unfortunately, this was not forthcoming.Collingwood's position from the outset was that a good player and an early draft pick was a fair return, although the club did consider the possibility of a combination of draft picks. Even this failed to produce a solution.

Now that negotiations with Brisbane have ceased, Collingwood is free to pursue other opportunities involving players and picks. The club remains open to offers from other clubs for Dayne, if that is his wish.

If not, at the conclusion of the trade period the club will look to sit down with Dayne to prepare for the 2015 season.

Amazed that 5 and 25 couldn't get it done...given the circumstances.

What are the odds of the deal going through in the end?

Apparently the Suns didn't have enough in their cap for Christensen. GWS wouldn't if they got Griffen. Not sure if either team would wanna give up one of their top players...Swans can't trade anyone in. Now we're back to Brisbane haha

Not sure, I wonder who'll blink first.

Also, GWS showing interest in Beams. Shaw is up there so I wouldn't rule that out.

Beams wants to leave which is the difference.  we had to accept unders last year for the go home boys so why pay a big price for some one who wants to leave and come to Brisbane. Do not care much anyway as we will more than likely get him next year and pies will get nothing due to the stubborness. Should have taken the 2 picks this year while they could.

Poor form Collingwood

Poor  form Brisbane
How?
Haha I know, we now have picks 5, 25, and basically Christensen deal is done. Collingwood were asking us to pay overs, and we didn't give in.

Wouldnt count on that mate. Reckon a deal gets done with another club now. GWS already speaking with Pies

Not too fussed, I consider us winners of this "no deal" situation anyway. If Collingwood can get a deal with another club that Beams agrees to, then good for them. If not, then I'll be laughing for the next few weeks.

Pies wanted a player, that's reasonable

reckon pick 25 and a player would've gotten it done

That was the opening request, negotiations have give and take

player was non negotiable

Eh, it was a fine line. Imo the only loser here was Beams, wanting to be with his sick dad
