@sam_mcclure: Breaking News: Collingwood veteran Nick Maxwell will tomorrow announce his retirement from the game.

Sad to see him go, he's very underrated. He's been a great player for the Pies and is a Premiership captain.

Vinny

I feel sorry for him that no one is really paying attention to his retirement due to Lenny's.

Good stuff Maxwell, I am sure the Pies fans will miss him.

Extremely underrated as many people thought of him as the worst captain going and a spud, but he was quite a good player structurally and very good at playing as a loose man and creating from half back, and yes he was a premiership captain! Maybe not a skipper that led through actions, but definitely through words, which is just as powerful. Great person, and sad as a supporter to see him go but the time has come on a few of our elder warriors, and I wouldn't be surprised if Bally or someone like Hudson is to follow suit in the next 6-18 months. Time to rapidly improve our young guns,  and for me it's a scary prospect to think where we could be in 3-4 years.

Capper

no doubt he will join either foxtel or Channel 7 and become a sideline commentator

Mailman the 2nd

Mixed feelings, never thought of him as much of a player but he evidently had leadership qualities.

tbh he never really played consistently at an AFL standard, but he made the most of his opportunities

Well said, I don't understand why he'd cop do much criticism from opposition supporters.

Capper

Maxwell a true Pieman through and through. Great backline general. Will not be easily replaced.  :-\

For a player to achieve so much with so little shouldn't be underrated.

Champion.

you see so many players with a lot of talent not do anything,  Maxie squeezed everything out he had

Technically he hasnt retired yet may be one reason.

But you are right. If he does retire the day after Lenny it is sort of hard to compete with someone so universally loved, even though Maxy was admired by many as well.

Yep. Official. Well done maxy. Gave 110% every match and was a great captain. To cop all the smack he did. He has had a great career. Onya mate.

How's this for a stat.... Maxwell played in 11 seasons. When he debuted,  Dustin Fletcher was already playing his 12th
