can someone just clarify what happens this round fantasy wise?

Partial lockout. There are 2 lockouts so only trade what you need to for the first weekend.

May even try captain and emergency loopholing, i.e Vice Captain Stevie J who plays GWS in the first weekend and is a bully to lower ranked teams and if he goes well the captain a non-playing player whose team plays the 2nd weekend etc (I just conviced myself to VC Stevie J  ;) )

Had already worked out I was VC Stevie J into Rockliff...

But my initial trades are:
-Hanley(Lions), Move D.Swallow(GCS), +Rockliff(Lions)
-XEllis (W.Coast), +McStay (Lions).

WCE play the second Friday and GCS&Lions play each other on the second Satday!

I may as well not make any trades til teams are out Thursday week.

And then after partial lockout you wouldn't be able to change that trade would you?
Ie you trade Sandi out and get Jacobs in and then Jacobs isn't named next week you would be stuffed?

you can only reverse this trade after partial lockou t using the phone app, unless the webpage has made recent changes.
