You have to trade for cover ..have you seen the number one ranked team. Otherwise agree with the rest of it

Put some thought into this, have a rough team at the moment.

No Rocky or Fyfe to start with at this stage. Found a young bloke who is ready to smash the comp next year and become that outbreak player, nobody will have him either. Trying to keep away from suspension and injury prone players, too many trades wasted this year because of that. Trying to find consistent performers who will score week in and week out, trying to not have as many players who are good one week and not the best the next week (Zorko)
Will only pick proven performers in the mids or cheap injury players who will score and fluctuate up in price, not wasting money on potential premiums only to be a little let down (Libba)
Will hopefully choose set rucks and try not to give into temptation on cheap scorers (Leuey) unless they have massive preseasons.

And one big thing from this year is not to settle with anything other than the best (Not starting with Pendles/decided to go Cotch)
Spend big down front and back will be a priority only on proven scorers, too much of a mystery - Look for value and rookies in the midfield.

And don't allow myself to go for all the PODS.. The best teams are those who have the most common players.

Pretty simple isn't it? Oh and leave at least 5 trades after Round 15 instead of running out.. Don't worry about trading for cover, trade for donuts - that's a big one.
Who is the young Bloke? Brandon Ellis? Crouch, Greene..?

ubeaut

Crouch is on the watchlist for sure

Cotch is someone who represents excellent value, I know many have been burnt recently but his form over the past 2 months has been outstanding. Will be priced around the 550k mark and is yet to enter his prime years, almost a lock for me.

I understand that part but im saying I'm not going to go all out and worry about cover.. That will be a priority after I'm happy with the team on field, and I have full cash generation at the business end of the year.

I have SMitch/Wingard/Zorko on my bench yet I'm losing ground at this stage of the year.. Teams with no cover have constantly been scoring 200-300 more points than me, and I've been losing so much ground. Every time they have someone out they just trade them out for someone better and make more points yet lose the trade I used to get thane extra players.

Can't tell you who he is yet, as I'm still trying to watch him myself.. But none of those mentioned, although Crouch is a gun and a watch as previously said.

I think you need a little Matt Priddis in your life.  ;)

Is it one of Heppell, Shuey/Gaff, parker?

First ever post guys after being a big fan of this site for a few years now. With a probable top 100 finish on the cards this year feel I have enough credibility to join the conversation finally. Thoughts on next year are

Defence: gonna be really tough feel as though Mcveigh, Swallow, Hanley will probably all lose DPP status. So for mine NDS (probably gain DPP) and Kade Simpson are currently the two closest to locks in defence.

Mids: have to go GAZ, Pendles every year, for a third top price mid feel Selwood, JPK are the next best options of those guaranteed to go over 115 , due to injury suspension  proneness of Rocky Fyfe.

For  value at m4,m5 gotta look at  Danger, Steven, Cotch, Griffen all underpriced for various reasons and all  gone 115+ in recent seasons. Or from the breakout contenders in order of preference, Treloar (pretty much a lock for me), O'meara, Crouch, Wines, Heppel. ROK if he goes to another club, will be priced at 42ave so must have as a rookie option IMO

Rucks: nic Nat with a full preseason is third player picked behind Gaz, Pendles, and Kruezer or Burger depending on price, definitely looking for value in the rucks due inconsistency of premos from season to season.

Forwards: Again have to wait on DPP, feel like danger, possibly Parker will lose theirs, so for mine Dusty (as frustrating as he is at times) and Gray are the two main ones, still think Buddy can be grabbed cheap at some stage especially if he has a BIG offseason wink wink. Daisy Thomas another to be considered if he gets his body right.  Tom Mitchell depending on discount. Hogan for the rooks

Welcome aboard mate, glad to have another great coach on board like you, it's great to see. No need to worry about credibility mate, there's plenty of coaches on here who have never finished that high and are well respected across the whole forum, so I'm glad you finally decided to join in, it's great fun (try not to get too hooked haha).

I really like every single aspect of your post to be honest mate, great choices across all lines. I have a feeling Mcveigh may keep DPP however. Also look at blokes like Henderson/Waters/Ibbo as your value picks down back, I feel they will be a great pick next year. Matt Scharenberg almost a lock for me too.

Can't fault the mids - dunno about Treloar though, could do a Libba and be a little underwhelming. ROK will be priced around the $300k mark I suspect, they won't allow him to go too cheap. Pretty much spot on to my thoughts mate, hahah

GoLions

Welcome Donny Slim. Just an FYI, I've never been ranked that high in my life haha (in SC anyway)

My only problem with your post is that you're not locking in the greatest player of all time, Sir Tom Rockliff

Thanks mate, was only joking about the credibility thing main issue with posting was that there was some issue with my account that I just got round to rectifying. Been active on the game day chat and don't worry am already focusing way too much of my time on sc.

Can't see mcveigh keepin DPP, he's been on a wing all year hasn't he?? Waters 100% if he can get on the park, Ibbo not sure he will get back in that side, think he has been passed by others, scharenberg looks the best rookie option so far no doubt.

Been all over Treloar the past couple of seasons without having the Cahunas to put him in my side, went Hanneberry in 2013 and Murph this year which were probably the right decisions, just feel that 4th season (5th in the system), genuine ball magnet, all the attributes of an elite mid, ward gets the tag and more so similar to gc players this year should see an approx 10% rise in scoring amongst GWS players next season with natural improvement/development of the team

Haha, cheers and yes I do agree Rocky is a fantasy beast, u will probably be shocked and appalled that he hasn't made his way into my side as of yet, however, the Fyfe suspension means I Have the pleasure of burning my last trade to get his hungry ass in my side. Like I said originally just feel that at the absolute top price I wouldn't want to start someone who has a habit of going a little overboard in the old white line fever at times. Saying that, like this year, I probably won't be able to afford to upgrade to him and be forced to watch in horror as he churned out 150+ each week

_wato

All good then mate, no issues! Yeah you may be right, didn't think of him lining up on a wing, you are 100% correct.

Good food for thought though mate, I wouldn't do it but it's totally upto you. Just don't know if he validates a starting spot in my team, but as you said he has all the attributes of an elite mid, including a massive ceiling which looks very attractive on a resume.

However, I want the genuine top 8 mids next year (no running around with semi elite scorers like KJack) and don't see him in those plans.
