Everyone is eligible for the best first year player in their 1st season hence why the award is called the best first year player once they finish their first year they are no longer eligible for the award of best first year player, Don't have to be a genius to figure out the terms and conditions of this award.

I don't care if his first game was in his 3rd year, Once a player gets drafted if they are good enough they can slot straight into the starting lineup. Tom obviously played 1 game in his first year because he wasn't good enough.

The award is not called "Best player in their first year whenever the club decides to actually let them play a game" award, Or "Best second year player because the players who are eligible for this award was not good enough in their first year"
