What would have been wrong with Philly overpaying him? It's not like they're using the rest of their salary cap yet anyway..

A couple of reasons. They could get another 2nd round pick in the trade and pick him back up in FA if they really did want him, his mother is a headcase and a distraction at the games and he thinks he is worth more then what he actually is. If another team wants to pay him, good luck to them, it goes against Hinkie's philosophy of loading up on assets. To do this they also need to be a dumping ground for bad contracts, not handing them out themselves. They probably would have let him walk in FA anyway but instead of being stuck with his contract for the next 3 seasons it allows them to go after a FA or two this year and next year while getting a player and 2nd round pick for him which is what they ended up spending on him. He is freakish at blocking the ball, but he is a SF that can't shoot and his overall defense is not exceptional. They also allowed a couple of other guys in Covington and Grant to get minutes they otherwise wouldn't have had and they seem to be doing alright

Doing a bit of research for my "If I had a ballot" ballot :P Everyone is chalking up Deandre as a lock for DPOY... Just checked and the Clippers are actually better defensively when he's off the court!

Interesting, even when he doesn't get block stats his outstretched arm is enough to put off the offensive player.  I'd still lean towards him, but AD, Kawhi, Draymond and Allen wouldn't be far behind...in fact that should be the all defensive team except they'll prob put a PG in there so one of them will miss out.  Nerlens prob has the numbers on all of them though!

Yeah I'll post something up in a couple of days, but I agree with you on those guys. I'd have John Wall as the other guard to make it.

Wall leading PG's in steals?  CP3 is always up there because he has such a low ratio of steals to turnovers which might get him in over Wall, I'd assume Wall would have a tonne more TO's than CP3.

Westbrook is leading PGs in steals actually but I don't consider him a good defensive player.

For reference, Washington are 6.3 points better defensively per 100 possessions when Wall is on the court - that's a greater number than Bogut, Kawhi and Davis :o Washington also have the 3rd best defense in the NBA - so he gets the nod from me.

But does the NBA take into account all this info when picking?

I presume most of the voters would take a look at some numbers before choosing.

My defensive player of the year is Draymond. Plays night in night out on the best defensive team in the league and can guard all 5 positions.

Jay

Perkins is one of the worst offensive players I've ever seen. Doing his best to get Boston in the playoffs ;D

Celts up 8 with 5 minutes to go... Really good effort so far on the road in Cleveland :)

Jay

BOOM! Down goes Cleveland!

#PlayoffPush

AFEV

Do that 4 more times in the first round vs Cleveland for maximum lols.
