BREAKING: #AFL anti-doping tribunal to hand down verdict on @EssendonFC 34 on March 31 - 2 days before Round 1 starts

Yup I also heard this on the radio. The players won't fight it if they only get 2 game bans, it isn't worth the risk because they might lose any potential backdating and cop 24 month suspensions

some illicit drugs could also enhance performance

Correct, which is why cocaine is banned on game day but if taken after a match and you have a positive test you fall under the 3 strike policy compared to a 2 year ban

I remember Warwick Capper saying something about it, saying he took cocaine before a game and was feeling awesome. but the come-down while still playing was the worst, not sure if he had more. I think it was on Open Mike

Yeah it was Open Mike and I thought it was speed. It was him and one of his team mates.

This was also in an error where there was no drug testing

That interview was awesome, he is such a douche but it is hilarious watching him

Bill Manspeaker

yeah it could've been speed actually, I can't remember. yeah that was one of my favourite Open Mikes

Mr.Craig

I don't think Warwick has ever come down.

31st March. 4 days before the season opener we find out.

Looks like ill be doing a team with Bombers. And a team without Bombers. Even if its only 2 matches. Can you afford to have HIbberd and Heppell (for example) scoreless for 2 matches off the bat?

Belly if you have DPP cover maybe.... but its too risky surely.

shaker

Think you would not get much more than even odds on 2 matches what a joke this is going to turn out to be , wonder if WADA will just except it ?

They have to I would have thought. They didn't appeal the Cronulla case (where the players plead guilty) and the evidence there was much stronger.

Yeah that's the only difference that the Bombers players have not pleaded guilty dont know if that has any bearing if they are found guilty which is looking likely

I agree shaker. They usually are harsher on people who plead not guilty and get a guilty verdict.

I just need to know for my bloody team structure. Who knew super coach would produce restless nights sleep.....

Well, if it's only 2 games, there's no way the Bombers would fight it, because that process would take longer than 2 weeks anyway.

But would ASADA fight it? They would go back to copping it for dragging it out, it would seem.

But boy, reading some of the comments from the last few pages is so painful. Some people still thinking it's about AOD, others thinking an infraction notice means guilty (rather than just a "we have enough evidence to think a breach MAY have taken place"), not to mention the spuds who carry on about the players deserving 2 years and calling for Hird's head before a verdict has been reached. Can't wait for all this to be over, but the sad part is there will always be that percentage of people who will never let it go (even if found not guilty) and carry on all over social media pages for the next decade about the 'drug cheats'.

At the end of the day, it's the players that matter most, and they didn't want or deserve any of this.

Big Mac

So what? If you're found gultty, embrace it. The only reason people go on about 'drug cheats' is because it gets a rise out of people

Its cheating that gets the rise because its unacceptable in Australian sport culture

I cant care either way if, when or why the Bombers players will get a suspension. I do care however about the timing!

Why the frog does the AFL expect to explain how players that have trained ALL pte-season long to compete at the AFL level, be told a day before the season starts that they will not be playing?

So players Essendon expect to "Top up" With" Who haven't had the full pre-season training and aren't AFL level expected to compete given they get what, at best, two days notice?

Ummmmmm

Cant even blame Dumbetriou anymore :'(

Yep, 2 days out is terrible timing. But on the bright side, at least the players can get the longest possible back-date to their last game  :P
