As McDevitt says it's just an option open to them. The punishments aren't handed out by ASADA, they're handed out by the AFL. So to get around the idea that the AFL could just sanction it's players with a 1 week ban or whatever, ASADA have the right to appeal it. They'll only take that up if they feel the punishment is too light. They're infinitely more likely to appeal after the way the club has handled everything though, in terms of challenging and trying to hold up every step, while ASADA have copped shower in the media for not just getting it over and done with... ASADA goodwill towards Essendon? In the negatives by now...

The care factor wore out long ago. Everyone is delusional that the AFL will allow its money to dry up if bombers team gets nuked. They will just cut from WADA like the NFL and NHL and do it in-house. Cover it with some bullshower, and the tickets sales will go on. At least then I will rest easy at night instead of rearranging my starting line up in SC every time I close my bloody eyes. Think Im going nuts.

I believe the only reason they're under the WADA code is because the government will cut funding to any Aus code that breaks away. NFL and NHL get bagillions of moneys through sponsorship.

This investigation is the most pathetic circus I have ever witnessed.

NRL are making us look like a bunch of idiots....

NRL have mega issues all the time ...at least they deal with it within weeks

A fine example of the bureacratic , over governed, nanny state we live in.

Too many goons getting paid too much with NFI what theyre meant to be doing so just generally do nothing...all day...every day

Who is actually responsible for paying ASADAs wages?

They would not be doing this for free?

Essendon players are concerned their fate is already decided as tribunal decision nears

DISTRESSED Essendon players have raised concerns with club officials that their fate in the drugs saga has already been decided.

But the Bombers have made inquiries with the AFL and are satisfied the decision of the league’s anti-doping tribunal is not yet known.

Information passed to club figures over the past week suggested the “Essendon 34” would be suspended for a minimum of two matches when the tribunal hands down its ruling later this month.

“There is a lot of anxiety at the club at the moment,” a source told the Herald Sun.

“There are a lot of rumours flying around and they are coming from reliable places.”

Player managers have warned some players would quit the club and launch legal proceedings over a breach of duty of care if they were suspended for a lengthy period.

But lawyer Justin Hooper, counsel assisting the AFL anti-doping tribunal, said the panel’s deliberations were continuing.

“As soon as the tribunal is ready to announce when the decision will be handed down, it will do so,” Hooper said.

They need to just shut up and take it. 2 matches for a guilty verdict is a godsend.

At least it can finally be over.

You're not wrong there mate. Still trying to get my head around how that kind of punishment (if guilty) is being floated around
