Sounds like there may be some substance to this Leigh Matthews Tweet.

Hope ASADA charges aren't football's version of the failed search for WMD in Iraq , seems to have same flimsy evidence !

so basically Shane Charters was ASADA's key witness.  But he has now pulled out because ASADA asked him to alter his evidence for their own agenda. They asked him to delete parts and add in other bits that weren't exactly true

this is huge

He didn't actually say they asked him to lie. Quote below.

"My concern was that the players may not get a fair trial (because) some of (my) original statement was deleted, some other areas asked for insertions, and from that you could see the agenda ... and I wouldn't be a part of that," he said.

3AW said that ASADA also basically said "delete this... insert this" and implied that Charters wouldn't because it wasn't necessarily true

Can't comment on what 3AW said mate didn't hear the interview or their comments after it but i would be gobsmacked if ASADA requested untruths be inserted into Charters statement as their whole case would desolve into dust if that ever came to light.
My opinion is and only my opinion as i have a severe lack of trust in Charter who is up on charges of trafficking steroids already and i feel the changes ASADA were asking for in his statement would of been damaging to Charter's defence so therefore thats why he's reluctant to make any changes. Just my opinion but i reckon id be close to the money.

Yeh the way I took it was, they didn't ask for him to blatantly lie but by adding and deleting parts it pushed it away from the exact truth

I just listened to the interview and ive put the link below to it. I honestly dont see the link to any untruths being added nor is it suggested anytime during the interview more so ASADA have asked for an old statement to be amended and signed off as a affidavit.

Quotes from the interview: "They had the original conversations that took place and beside that they had little side-points saying 'delete this', 'insert this' ... amendments basically," he told Ross, John and Sly.
"And then they were saying they wanted it signed up as an affidavit and I was not happy with neither one of those requests."

Charter to me appeared to be evasive to a point but the interview is below i'll let people draw their own conclusions from it rather than push my opinion on them. I do agree with Sly though that a 12 month old statement two weeks from trial is asked to be amended is bizarre but bizarre in the sense it looks very unprofessional but not illegal as it does occur prior to trials.

He also suggests at the end of his interview that the evidence would be loaded against the Bombers, as a result of those ammendments. Indirectly, but thats the way I interpret it. Which is obviously why he won't appear in court.

The amendments would certainly assist ASADA in gaining a conviction i agree otherwise why would they ask for them to be included, thats a given i reckon. I still feel his reluctance to testify is that he may incriminate himself further for his upcoming trial for trafficking steroids and being in possession of other illegal substances otherwise why would he be reluctant to testify "i have an aversion to court rooms" doesn't wash with me thats just rubbish that is. If i could testify in court that what i did was in no way illegal id jump at the opportunity but if i was going to be asked questions that may incriminate me then i would certainly be reluctant it's human nature. Charter in my opinion doesn't give a rats @rse about the Essendon players he's out to protect himself from further litigation is how i see it.
Im moving away from the main point to much and that point being ASADA hasn't asked him to lie, they haven't they have asked him to make amendments to his statement which for some reason he doesn't want to, i doubt he doesn't  want to because it will hurt the Bombers case when he said in the past he's happy to assist ASADA and is dirty on those (Dank etc) that have been unwilling, why now all of a sudden has his position changed, i suspect it's changed due to other prosecutions pending.

I don't even think that is the main point tbh man. The main point is ASADA have asked him to alter his evidence.
Whether or not they've asked him to lie or not, we don't know. I interpreted it that the inclusions and deletions pushed the evidence away from the truth, but thats just how I took it.

And yeh Charters is shady as, but he is also ASADA's main witness

Grazz

I'll be honest mate i can't see how you can come to that conclusion but the tide of public opinion is turning against ASADA and has for some time. Opinions are how the site runs and everyone is entitled to have them i respect that and your right to air yours.
I can't in all honesty except ASADA would fabricate or ask for anything but the truth to be added otherwise they or those individuals would be liable to prosecution and jail if found guilty, i just can't see it mate.
