the thing is-and im purely speculating here...the club wont get kicked out/banned for any period of time because:
1-they have one of the biggest supporter bases
2-3rd or 4th largest membership base
3-a showerload of prime time games that will cause trouble with 7 and Fox
4-they play games like Dream Time and Anzac day

I cant think of any off the top of my head..but there will be more reasons.....it's all about money nowadays

Keep in mind that ASADA is a seperate entity to the AFL, the AFL would sure care about those things but the ASADA sentiment is (and needs to be) along the lines of DILLIGAF?

Individual player suspensions are more likely, they can't ban the club as a whole. Meaning 2s guys will have to come in.

Exactly. The club in itself can't be kicked out, at least under ASADAs mandate, but the players can be banned. And I think that's unfair to the players but it is the rulebook... As others have said basically leaves you with a VFL team in the 1s, should be good  :-X

something i have been wondering about

if it was say 2 year bans for the 34 would they let us have whatever draft pick we get?

you could argue it's draft tampering or would they extend the draft sanctions? :-X

Interesting thought KB. I guess I would say if they lose 34 players that's punishment in itself for the club as the membership and supporter base would for sure take a hit, they've already got huge legal costs etc. If they wooden spoon for 2 years, no reason not to give them 2 #1 picks. With that said, does that then give them an unfair advantage when their players return, in that they now have a full strength team bolstered by two #1 picks?

mmmm... I think it'd be more likely the afl would say they get like pick 8 each year or something :/

exactly increased picks would be an unfair advantage when the banned guys return...

and ASADA may say DILLIGAF...I would as well, but we have seen that the AFL has had a large say/involvement in certain parts of this

I think it'll be 6-month if proven guilty by the AFL.

If that's the case, you'd think they'd give us an allowance to pull players from our VFL side to play on a temporary basis. Or the bans will be taken at different times over 1-2 years

Fairly certain Saad got a reduced ban because he helped with the investigation.  Not 100% though

If found guilty,  Ess players will get 2 years unless they assist ADADA.

pretty sure asada said at some point that if the players plead guilty they'd just give them 6 months. If they're found guilty otherwise they'll get screwed.

I find it humorous that there was all this uproar about aod-904 (or whatever), media went ballistic on it. Turns out that's not even what they're being done for.

yeh that was when ASADA tabled deals to the players and if they accepted and helped with the investigation the offer was 6 months. They knocked that bback. And I'm not sure if that offer is still on the table

The AFL impose the ban on players, but if they impose a ban that ASADA thinks is too light then ASADA appeals it. The role of ASADA (and above them WADA) in the banning process is basically to make sure that anti doping code is being properly applied. It seems a little complicated but you can see how it plays out with the Cronulla boys - the NRL levies a ban on them that ASADA had agreed to and WADA had agreed they wouldn't appeal. If the NRL had imposed a ban which ASADA or WADA did not agree with, then they appeal for it to be a harsher penalty.

I believe that's the case too

They should do, whether it pans out that way we'll wait and see. I would hope at least 18 months.

Exactly. ASADA proposed a deal if they were willing to play ball, they clammed up, I doubt ASADA will still be as nice.

I feel it's a little bit like the end of "a few good men", the younger marine can't understand why he's being dishonourably discharged for following an order from the commanding officer. The choice to follow the order was still made, even if it seems like there's not really a choice. Same thing here, it really seems like there were a lot of red flags ignored, even if staff were giving it the all clear...

Mr.Craig

Well, the AFLPA's demands a week ago for a resolution within 7 days have come and gone unsurprisingly.

Mailman the 2nd

Why wouldn't he just appeal the fine rather than not pay it or say anything

has there been any updates about the show cause notices?
