Bit messy, but note that Sangakkara's average is so much higher than the next best on that list 58.91 to 53.78 (Tendulkar). Note Jayawardene is currently in his final ever test innings, him and Sangakkara have gone into 2nd place for the highest scoring partnership, behind Dravid-Tendulkar.

Sri Lanka really do have some great players that probably don't get as much praise as they deserve.

Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Murali, Jayasuriya, Mathews, Herath, Dilshan. I've probably missed some but those guys are all some decent quality from the last decade.


There's this lad playing for England that deserves a bit more praise. ;) I think I've mentioned him on this forum a couple of times. Also with the Aussie Sam Robson failing, Adam Lyth might be in line to play for England in the future, a bloke who's stats this season in county cricket are a lot better than the number Gary Ballance put up last season. :)

Sri Lanka really do have some great players that probably don't get as much praise as they deserve.

Sanga is certainly a legend. He is averaging 70 since he gave up the gloves, that's just insane.

Mahela has made a shower load of runs, but I don't consider him in the same class as Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Dravid and Sangakarra. He averages 60 at home, but that drops to 41 away from Sri Lanka. In Australia he averages 31, in England 35 and in South Africa only 27. Kinda tells me that he gets found out against good opposition on proper pitches.

Just for reference, Sachin averages 55 away from India. Including, an average of 53 in Australia, 54 in England and 47 in South Africa. #BestSinceBradman
