well Sri Lanka collapsed and only set 189 for NZ to win

couple early wickets, 2/13 atm. Williamson and Taylor together. big partnership here

PowerBug

England 28/2 (12.6 ov)
South Africa

It's in the 2nd session been some rain. Both openers Cook and Hales have fallen cheaply to Dale Steyn (surprise surprise). Jimmy Anderson not playing Chirs Woakes is batting at 9 for England so there's no excuse if the top 9 (And Broad at 10) can't put together 300 runs.

Well they got to 300! Stuart "the god" Broad has two early wickets :) Dean Elgar and Dead Bat De Villiers (How ironic that that nickname actually fits for him. Every nickname suits De Villiers he is a specialist at everything) are in right now :P

That's pretty impressive. Would've stolen De Villiers' record too if Sri Lanka score more runs. I feel sorry for the locals that were going to go to the 2nd session of play. Finished inside 40 overs!

Meanwhlie in Durban:
England 303 & 172/3 (64.0 ov)
South Africa 214
:D :D

Compton has an 85 and 49 though so no Gary Ballance just yet. Hales made 10 and 26 no doubt he will be given a second chance to open the batting. Oh where are the people that wanting Ian Bell out there still now ::) Nick Compton has been the man so far :)

I dunno why I thought it was 418

bloody Faf. he should've just pretended he was batting against Australia, the barbie. AB's gonna have to pull something out of his ass to get the win. I'll back him in  ;D :-\

No you are correct in saying 418 as the World Record. I am fairly sure it's the Windies that did the chasing, who it was against I can't be sure of but Australia psrings to mind.

ha haaa I was right

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64027.html
There's the match from 2003

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;innings_number=4;orderby=team_score;result=1;template=results;type=team;view=innings
That should be a link to all successful 4th innings run chases. Surprised to see such a recent game near the top there as well (382/3 by Pakistan)

So SEN radio were talking about modernising test cricket up my mate heard this and come up with the idea of getting a new ball for 5 overs kinda like when the Power play is used in one day cricket. Once that 5 overs is up the old ball is given back to the bowling team

Positives:
Allows bowling team on "roads" to get a bit of swing and produce and attacking field for 5 overs to try and take wickets again

Batsman have a harder ball to hit and if the field comes up can have a crack for a few overs

Negatives:
Once the first ball have stopped swinging and have had "no luck" the bowling team go extra defensive to stop boundaries waiting for a newer ball

A batsman who has done a superb job at outlasting a new ball and has done everything right just to have another new ball bought into the attack for a few overs while he is on the way of making a big score

Seems a bit strange but wouldn't be the worse thing they have tried in cricket

PowerBug

Interesting. But I think there's other ways to modernise it without removing its traditions.
