No news on McEvoy's hamstring? Would really throw another spanner in the works :-\

It didn't look great to be honest. Incidentally, Hawthorn are saying it's a hamstring and AFL.com are saying it's a calf.

Ricochet

Another huge injury blow...

Wow. Reading up on the illness sounds like it has the potential to be really bad. Hope he pulls through this ok :-\

Ricochet

We play really well most weeks ;)

Nige

Put Brett Ratten or Damian Caroll in charge.  8)

Mr.Craig

Someone's obviously been smashing mirrors and walking under ladders at Glenferrie.

I dont think a lot of people out there realise how serious this virus is.

- It kills 1 in 10 people that get it.
- 15% suffer from permanent disability.
- For the rest it takes 6 months to 2 years or more to fully recover.
- There is no cure

Scary stuff.
Clarko is a very fit and determined person so I have no doubt he will make a full recovery but it wont be a quick week or 2 out

Oh wow, didn't know it was that serious to be honest. That is extremely scary, hopefully he can get through this!  :-\

Toga

Wow didn't realise the seriousness of it either quinny, that sounds pretty bad. All the best to Clarko in his recovery!

Mailman the 2nd

It only gets that serious if it affects your Central Nervous System or Respiratory System so he'll be ok in the end but certainly could've been bad

Nige

Luckily for Clarko, there was early detection so he should be fine.

But yeah, gave it a quick Google when I heard the news... this thing is legit dangerous.

valkorum

Early detection or not - it doesnt matter when you find out you have this.  THERE IS NO CURE!!!

All you can do is rest and hope your immune system reverts back to normal.  It normally starts from a viral infection which triggers your immune system to attack the virus and kill it (as per normal when you get sick).  Except that this time your immune system doesnt stop after the virus has been killed.  It now starts attacking the nervous system in your body.

I was diagnosed with this 2.5 years ago.  It took me 12 months to get over it.  I was very lucky in that I had a extremely mild version but it rendered me unable to walk for about a week and then it was about 6 - 8 months before I could do exercise again.
