People still hate and for whatever reason, just need to realize that not everyone will accept the new standards many of us live by

Oh please, it wasn't anti-gay. This has been blown up too much
People are far too precious

he called someone a poofter because he was giving an effeminate wave while celebrating on the football field.

That's homophobic and suggests that gays are less masculine than heterosexuals.  And it's exemplified by the article kb posted where he said 'I don't want to offend his upbringing or his parents... but he looks gay.', which basically says being gay is a bad thing/ people should be offended if they're called gay.
there was absolutely no intent to offend with his comment.  Insults are all about the intent. We can call someone an idiot, a loser, a big girl, in jest and it is be fine, but as soon as there an intent to offend in the way it is said then that is when there is reason to be insulted. And there was zero reason to find the way BT said poofter offensive

BT could not offend HT by calling him that (unless HT is one and that is besides the point).

However, he does and did offend a lot who are. Now whether he likes it or not, he did. And he apologised.

I agree with Coach Carter when he pulled up his African American players for calling each other 'Nigger'.

Awareness is being raised and that is a good thing. In a few years, decades or generations from now, people will marvel at how insensitive and judgemental we were in the early 21st century. Just as we find it hard to believe people ate each other.

HT wasn't offended by it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a denigrating insult (not to HT) but to homosexuals.  Insults aren't about intent necessarily, they're about harm. HT wasn't offended, but there are plenty of gays around the country who would have found it offensive/ hurtful to use a word that refers to them as meaning something that's less manly.

Agree Grazz if it was planned by Channel 7 then imo some disciplinary action is required.  How that could pass through stuns me, but given some the stuff on TV these days may not have entered into the discussion,

Theres a bit of conjecture as to how it went down by the look of it. One side Footy Classified's is, it was a rehearsed skit where a producer etc and everyone sits in a goes through it a few times or the side that Luke Darcy gave on 7's Talking Footy where he said oh well  you know it was a cross from BT upstairs and how do you stop an accident so to speak. Suggesting it wasnt rehearsed. Hmmmm interesting, if it was rehearsed then BT is being hung out to dry really everyone involved should be reprimanded like BT, yes he said it but i doubt there was any i'll will to the gay community but in todays politically incorrect world rightly or wrongly you just dont go there on national television and not expect to get a reaction.

The real story within the story for me is how do all these intelligent commentators, high paid 7 execitive producers staff crew bugger me the camera man haha SOMEBODY not say "Hey guys do you think we should really say that on the air, maybe use another word rather than P**fter". Im sorry but that makes me laugh im gobsmacked i really am. Yep were human we make mistakes always will but if there was alot of people making the same one at the same time then thats just crazy.

We all pretty much know no harm what so ever was intended on anyone that is gay otherwise no way in the world would nobody of said "hang on you can't have a go at them on national tv are you insane thats not on" so you have to say it was innocent but bloody stupid all the same haha. i'll have one of the jobs now available at seven's football production dept now currently available thanks haha.

What makes Harry Taylor a poofter any way??

The way he dresses?? there are 21 other guys in the same outfit.
The fact that he is fit? arent they all fit??
Clean shaven?? most of them were....
The fact that he looks after himself? All AFL players do so....

You are an idiot BT and if it this was a stunt by channel 7 then that is a disgrace

BTW who the flower cares if he is gay or not, does it really matter?

tor01doc

I think this thread is excellent.

As long as people can discuss issues without it getting personal, it helps raise awareness and leads to a more intelligent and accepting society.

I don't think Harry is tbh, i don't care either way same as you. I think he was just used to make the skit relevant with his hand waving etc being carried off. It's another confusing part of the whole fiasco that they would involve an innocent party in their screw up. It's just so dumb on so many level's it's hard to know where to start in on it.

that really isn't what the issue's about lol, it's pretty unlikely harry's gay. The issue is using a word that describes homosexuals used as a demeaning insult.

Mat0369

Something else that tells me it was set up, networks have a 3 second delay to chop out anything that is not supposed to go to air.

Ziplock

Eh, something like that could be pretty easily missed depending on who's supposed to be doing the cutting.

If you're saying the issue here and the reason why people are making a big deal over it is that harry might be gay then you're misinformed and have completely misinterpreted the problem.
