Salem will prove to make cash and bump his average over the course of the year. But there's too many better picks for close to half the price, in Lambert, Steele, Krakeour...

Yes but Salem will play round 1. The three you mentioned are unlikely to play round 1 at this stage. Maybe one of them will play if you're lucky.

This is why he is in my team

Cant take any notice about NAB cup...especially when Roos is the coach

Roos probably gave him the old "go out there but don't exert yourself"...hes been busted saying this before

I didn't exactly love seeing a 40 from Salem, but he is still in my side for now

He is best 22, and the more he gets used to his new role the better he will get.

Now if he churns out another couple of crap scores from now until rd1, then I will have to reconsider, because he is a rookie after all, but for now I have faith

Mat0369

Just something to consider with Salem, he didn't play all that well and still scored 40. Considering we had a few rookies in the forward line last year that scored 20's and 30's on the reg (Gary Rohan I am looking at you) is a floor of 40 really that bad? I would think he has the ability to score a lot better then he did last night and if he throws the odd 40 up so be it

Reviving my old thread hahaha. I don't want to be burned by Salem again, I'm opting for other choices this year instead.

LordSneeze

A lot of people will go Clark over him. I can see cCark averaging around 50. If Salams floor is 40 then ill take that, mainly because he will be on my bench.

Salem is $185,000....Rookies are 50-80k cheaper

What price would Salem go to etc if he only avs 40??

Mat is saying that Salem had a bad game, and still scored 40. Not that he expects Salem to average 40, but he expects Salem to score atleast 40 each week

Mark

Yeah understsand mate...

But say the rookies score av is 50...

What score av would Salem have to av so your happy paying the extra $$ for him, as in the end they all will be Cash Cows and not keepers..

I think the point people miss is game time. Salem will play, where most if not all of the crop of <130k rookies will not. And an average rookie score of 50 could well be generous, as Mat0639 said we had plenty last year like Rohan, Lennon getting 30s. So I would rather pay 180k for Salem when I think he should play most weks, even if he's only getting 40-50, rather than someone who costs less but only plays a few games...

H1bb3i2d

I'd rather go 2 mid-pricers than a gun + $180k rookie averaging 50  ;)

Mat0369

Being realistic I am expecting a 60-70 average at best from Salem. There are no forward rookies that are going to come out and average 80+ a game that start the year

The popular picks last season of Rohan, Impey, Ambrose, Z Merrett, Lewis Taylor all averaged the following

50, 48.6, 56.8, 63.7, and 63.5.

If you go back 2 seasons, you have Caff and Dwyer were both popular and averaged 59.6 and 68.1 a piece

You might have some decent downgrade options later in the year like McGovern or Turner, but the guys that generally start won't go more then 70 more often then not.

So if at his worst Salem can score a 40 I will take that. He uses the ball so well which is good for SC and he will have a couple of big games to bump that average back up into the 60 range and generate cash quickly when he does score well. Throw in his good job security and he is worth the cash compared to someone like Karnezis who has questionable job security and has burnt me in the past.
