Also, New Zealand are touring England prior to the Ashes tour, playing two tests in Lords and Headingley, along with 5 ODIs.

Also, do note the Australian itinery. Two four day matches before the first test, however there are also 3-day matches between the 2nd and 3rd tests and also between the 4th and 5th tests. 5 ODIs are being played.

Why are the Ashes being held again in 2015? I thought there was usually a 2 1/2 year break between an Aussie summer and English Winter Ashes, not 1 1/2?

Let me explain.

So the 2013 Ashes were held normal time, but the next Aussie ashes couldn't be held 2014/15 because the World Cup starts not long after in Australia, so it got brought that forward to the series just finished.

If they were to continue on the current trend the next England Ashes would be in 2016 (30 months after the Aussie one) but they didn't want to the play the England Ashes on an even year because it coincides with the Olympics. So that has been moved to 2015. Things will then be back to normal after that, 2016/17 the next Aussie ashes, 2019 next England, and so on until something or someone else decides to alter it.
