And FTR I honestly don't get why they have byes as opposed to another split round, seems completely stupid to me

I would completely agree with this, but why have a split round and a set of byes in the same season? If the bye rounds make more money, wouldn't do they have them twice? I don't get the AFL.

Why not just have a week in the middle of the season where no one plays.
