The 2014 U18/Draft Thread

there's a lad by the name of Tom Wilkinson  who didn't get taken at the Draft.

He's from Melbourne Grammar, Sandringham Dragons and VIC Metro, and had a pretty solid season from what I've heard. Against WA in Perth, he racked up 30 touches and kicked a goal, but only played another 1 or 2 after that, and didn't get to the Draft Combine. Ran a 16.8 - yes, 16.8 - beep for Sandy in pre-season so he has elite endurance, is about 182cm and is a well-built inside midfielder. Would love to see him get a crack, a personal favourite of mine and I reckon he could be a diamond in the rough.

Also, another boy, Tom Read , rucked for SA at the U18s this year and is a Sturt boy. He's a beanpole but is a very good tap ruckman. Has suffered from chronic fatigue but has put in some fantastic displays. He kicked one from outside 50 at Simonds Stadium against VIC Metro (I think?)

He's a definite chance to get picked up, but he is very raw and will be a project player and will definitely take a few years before he really starts to hit his straps (as is the case with a lot of ruckmen)

I have played with him in the past and he's a ripper bloke though so hope he gets picked up

Official start time is 11:00am (AEDT) with PSD first followed by rookie.  Will all be done electronically by clubs.

GWS may or may not take their first PSD pick, nobody knows yet. If they don't, Jason Tutt to Carlton will be the only pick like Jed Lamb to GWS last year.

For anyone not following the feed, Cal says:

A few little whispers getting around... The Gold Coast is expected to take Andrew Raines as a rookie and is interested South Australian prospect Josh Glenn, while Billy Gowers has been linked to Carlton and the Brisbane Lions.

Braydon Preuss, a 205cm ruckman from Queensland, could be in the sights of Essendon and North Melbourne, while the late mail has linked Greater Western Sydney to delisted Geelong player Mitch Brown. That might be as a pre-season pick, though, given the Giants have been weighing up whether to activate their PSD selection/s.
