I used the Hawthorn example of Franklin and Roughead who the Flagless Tigers could've had v Delidio and Tambling who aren't big forwards

sheesh

Nige

The Crows seem to be pretty happy with the midfield strategy.  :P

Have Steele, Brayshaw/Petracca already, why load up on midfielders when you have the chance to take the best tall/utility ?

Vince, Tyson, Michie with already Jones, Toumpas, Trengove, Cross, Jetta, Kennedy-Harris, Viney, Aidan Riley and Salem

Not enough talent in there yet?

Vince and Cross are at the end of their careers, JKH is a small forward, Jetta is a defender and Trengove may never play another game.

What tall would we take? We don't need a key defender, and Wright will take 6 years to develop and then there's still question marks over him

Rico hits the nail right on the head.

Melbourne can just draft some elite midfielder in the next few years with a draft pick (lowish) but they won't get a tall in the vicinity of McCartin/Wright for years to come as there is a lack of talls.

Why wait for Dawes to reach his 30's before you find his successor when you can get a built brute of a player to take over when he reaches that age?

It's really really simple. Mid/FWD for me.

Which built brute do we take? Wright?

1. McCartin
2. Brayshaw
3. Wright
4. Petracca

I just think if you took Petracca and Brayshaw your putting all your eggs into one basket and hoping a that your key forwards are able to the best they can do until you redraft a KPF, but with thin stocks when will you get a chance to get a player as good in his final year as McCartin or Wright?

Petracca, Brayshaw, Jones, Viney, Vince, Tyson, Toumpas, Salem, Trengove, Michie, Riley and even Cross may all warrant a starting place in your team next year - and we all know premierships aren't won with a great midfield - just ask Brisbane how that facet of play has worked in the immediate past and how without a great KPF they will go this year.

I think KPF possess the great ability to have significant potential, and if they fail they fail - I would rather live with picking a KPF who won't turn out than a mid who won't turn out and missing out on a KPF who will ace the next decade.. Why? Because midfielders are a dime a dozen, and are so evenly contested. (This year from pick 5 to 25).

Melbourne and the saints will have plenty of opportunities in the near future for key position player at the top of the draft

According to draft experts man there isn't much talent coming through in the foreseeable future in terms of good KPF stocks, so it could be a few years before another good prospect turns up.
