THE AFL's two highest-paid players went head-to-head last weekend

An interesting read. Suggests that Scully could actually be earning more than Ablett this year which is concerning when you compare output and the fact Scully is being used as a tagger. On the other side though, Scully is much younger.

With so many other things going on in the AFL Scully is extremely lucky that he fly's under the radar as much as he does

So many other players get ripped into by the media and fans about their output, while Scully sits up in Sydney and gets paid insanely for such an average footballer

He really is blessed, and he knows it. Once in a lifetime that such an average, borderline crap player gets paid what he does

He is worth no more than 300k a year

elephants

Honestly cannot believe he gets paid what he does. I would be playing Dylan Shiel over Scully but the Giants can't be paying Scully a million a season to play NEAFL.

This is the danger of such long-term contracts given to unproven players.

Where's the motivation to improve? He's going to be getting a million a season for at least half of his career...

Toga

Yeah I couldn't believe the Giants were going to pay him as much as was reported at the time of his signing. Sure, he's a #1 pick so obviously has talent but so many high draft picks have crashed and burned in the past so was always a huge risk.

As others have said, damn he should feel lucky not only with the amount of money he gets paid, but also the lack of criticism towards him. Unbelievable really to think that so many great players don't get anywhere near what he's getting! :o

On the other hand he must be rated pretty highly internally. He was top 3 in the B&F last year and 4th the year before

SydneyRox

GWS needed to overpay for him since they couldnt get Swan, Beams, Pendles etc that they were linked with to leave and come to Sydney. For all we know there was another 3or4 younger guys on the radar too.
At the time he was well rated if not highly rated. He just hasnt come along as well as everyone had hoped, but there are plenty of top 10 picks that you can say that about as well.

Mailman the 2nd

I liked that he's paid a stupidly high amount because it means GWS won't completely faceroll the competition as hard in 3-5 years time opposed to if they got better players

That is purely rigged - they just do that to justify his salary

Cant have a 1M Man finishing in the mid to bottom section of the B&F can you?

lol they won't rig their B&F mate

RaisyDaisy

It might not be "rigged" but it isn't accurate

Absolutely zero chance that he is a Top 3-4 performer, even at GWS

As a tagger could well be if he is playing his role for the team. Remember these awards aren't like the Brownlow and all about getting the footy

Funny when you compare Scully to NicNat and the amount of heat NicNat has been copping lately.

Scully was a higher pick, is paid a lot more and has shown a lot less. Not to mention he's a midfielder thus should develop a lot quicker than a ruckman like NicNat.

Ahh, AFL community.

I understand what your saying, but I will still back my gut and say that they cannot have a 1M Man finishing low in the B&F. Make of that what you will

Keep in mind that GWS have rotated a lot of guys through there teams the past couple of years. He is probably one of only a few blokes at GWS to play nearly every game in that time so therefore more likely to finish higher at the b&f.

Can tell you right now, if a club could have a pick of any of the GWS players he wouldn't be in anyone's top 10

Toga

Interesting point there quinny - who would be the 10 you would take?

Ward, Cameron, Mumford, Coniglio, Davis, Treloar, Smith, Tomlinson, Patton, Haynes would probably be my picks :P
