as a pair there are some good ones going around like Grima/Thompson, Gibson/Birchall, Lonergan/Enright.

But as individuals i would say Gibson @ FB and Enright @ CHB atm this year

Jroo

McPharlin, Harry Taylor, Gibson and Scott Thompson are the best key defenders in the comp, but if I had to pick two I'd go with McPharlin and Harry Taylor.

Ricochet

McPharlin, Glass and Thompson would be my picks

valkorum

I agree with JRoo - McPharlin and Taylor are clearly the best 2 going around.

Glass is living off his previous reputation.  He takes the 3rd tall and peels off to help, and has done for a few seasons now.  That's not being the best FB/CHB

A couple of key defenders who really go underrated are:

Rory Thompson
Jack Frost
Jordan Roughead
Tom Jonas
Alipate Carlile
Joel Patful

All take the opposition best or second best forward and does the job week in week out and rarely get beaten

If we're talking man-on-man key defenders my top few would be McPharlin, Lonergan, Taylor, Dale Morris, Mackenzie, Jonas

He's underrated, I rate him too.

David Astbury.  ;)
One of the best key defenders this year, he's improved a lot.

You've forgotten the most underrated defender by far this season

Steven May

Averages 5 more one-percenters per game than any player in the competition.

In the top 10 for rebound 50s this season as well

Kept Matthew Pavlich to 0 goals when they lost by 60 points. Kept Jonathon Brown to 0 goals as well as James Frawley

This is a guy on a team 3 years old when he's 22

Disagree

Since when did FB/CHB be solely based on how you perform one on one?

Glass is a fantastic defender, both one on one, and being the general controlling what goes on down back

Mackenzie is so underrated, especially here in Victoria

McPharlin and Harry Taylor are guns and Lonergan is another who is too underrated

Gibbo and Scott Thompson are very good too

Oops he only averages three more than Gibson. which is a total of 16-18 more

Nige

But yeah, I'm a big fan of Mackenzie, Gibson and Thompson.

Another greatly under rated defender outside Brisbane Joel Patful. 2 times Brisbane Best and Fairest and we seen his effectiveness on Nroo on Anzac Day.  As was said control Nroo and win the game. Joel held Nroo and we won our first game.
