Was looking to trade in Fasolo, Big Sauce and Lloyd in the next 2 weeks but then noticed it would leave me with a rather unpleasant bye split of 13/8/9.

What are peoples thoughts on taking the hit in round 8 to ensure a strong run in rounds 9 and 10? I feel the points I will gain in the next 3 rounds by making the trades and having a stronger squad in rnd 8 and 9 will almost cover the 2-3 donuts i will cop in round 8.

Just remember you only have to have 18 on field players for Round 18 so if you work it you can mimise effect in Round 8.

I did this year before last and my ranking never recovered.

Unless you're in paid leagues, I'd be trying to orient your team towards doing no trades in week one and double or triple trades in the following weeks, including dropping off some of those rookies that have made you their main bucks.

Totally ignoring the byes is fraught with danger for both overall and leagues.

For overall, you'll just never make up the points during the other rounds because it's not as if your round 8 players are that much better than others - eg Sauce vs Cox

For league, your percentage can drop big time which can be important in your ca$h league.

Take the middle path Buddha! Om.

So is it best to do no trades in round 8 .ie. keep McDonald, Langdon, etc and then in round 9 double or triple trade and turn say McDonald into Swallow and Langdon into another round 8 premo?

Cannot ignore the byes. It is absolutely fraught with danger. The points are critical for you overall ranking so you need to spread the carnage as evenly as possible.

In an ideal world you would have 18-20 scoring players in your side so you shouldn't trade in round 8.  But the SC landscape is never ideal with injuries and suspensions.

The problem we seem to have is to upgrade through the byes you want good downgrade options. I was hoping players like Crouch and Lloyd would come in a little bit later, if they started in round 6 then they would be perfect to bring in in round 9. Instead, they've started a couple of weeks earlier. I'm gonna have a long hard think about who I downgrade and when, as I started with a late bye spread to begin with, currently 9/7/14. So I have flexibility there. It's more a cash of whether it's worth it to trade down now... Eg if Crouch keeps going at 63av he's 250k to bring in round 9. Not sure it's worth sacrificing the points of someone like Tyson even if I might lose a little bit of profit (not sure Tyson will go up by 130k in the same time frame!)

no tanking  should be done during the byes

if you plan well you can pick up easy league wins and move up in overall
