Cotchin

Cotchin seems like too nice of a guy, and handled the attention very very poorly.
You see a lot of other players, when they get cuddled by their marker, give them a swift punch or elbow in the guts and Cotch wasn't doing that. Not enough mongrel.

I'd love to know what Young did to earn the random bump and spray

Crowley very tame compared to McCaffer whose tactics were certainly not within the spirit of the game.  The only way to break a tag like that would result in giving away free kicks.  If I was Cotchin's coach I'd say do what you have to do, I'm behind you all the way. If McCaffer keeps it up someone will line him up one day and that will be the end of him for awhile.

So Macaffer bear hugging Cotchin is not in the spirit of the game but lining him up and taking him out  for a while is ok?

Hmm didn't see the game but it sounds like many spectators and even Dimma were pretty unimpressed with Macaffer's tactics... Taggers are needed to play their roles in their teams and everything but there needs to be a line drawn at some point and the umpires need to at least show a bit of protection to the blokes being tagged.

On another note Lids being sidelined seems like it might really affect Cotch's scoring as he will be tagged a lot more than usual :(

As soon as the tagger uses his arms to hold someone from a contest free kick that would have seen Cotchin get lots of free kicks and made Caff change his plan , this happens quite a bit and about time umpires cracked down on it half a dozen frees in one 1/4 will make coaches change there instructions to there taggers

scumbag

Macaffer was blatantly holding back cotchin with his arm around Cotchin's waist at pretty much every contest, not sure how the umpires missed most of that throughout the match.
Only a couple of times in the whole match did his teammates tried to block macaffer though.

Jroo

Macaffer smashed Cotch. But it's hard to get the ball when you're being held and blocked at every contest.
Wouldn't be trading Cotch as yet, Lids still to come in, which will help take away some attention.

Don't know if he smashed him but he certainly got more cuddles of Caff than he would get off his wife , if they allow attention like that it won't be long till all the gun onballers get the same attention and we don't want to see that

Just watched a replay of the last quarter, the whole Cotch v Macaffer thing is an absolute joke. Macaffer had his arms around Cotchin and was bear hugging him at like every contest, something needs to change in the umpiring against these kind of players.

Hadn't really watched Macaffer in action until now, used to think he was a good tagger but flowering hell that was pretty poor tactics last night.

Spite

I was at the game and watching caffer, what most of you see is around the contest on tv and yes caffer was blanketing cotchin but as soon as the ball was cleared, caffer would get almost floored by any richmond player passing through. I honestly thought he would be subbed out he was getting smacked around so hard. It was an aggressive match up and cotchin got frees when caffer crossed the line but cotchin also got some leeway too.

May I point out that when caffer was being offensive and trying to be a link up man, cotchin lagged behind and didn't run at all. He looked as if he gave up and it was a poor showing from a captain. If pendles ever looked like that I would think it was a disgrace.

Fair point and we must take our team hats off you the Pies and myself the Tiges , watching on TV we probably saw a closer look at the stoppages than being at the ground Caff tactics made Crowley look second rate in the tagging department a new level , do we really want our best midfielders shackled in such a manor I think not or we will end up with a very messy and undesirable type of game

That's the thing though can you imagine how physically exhausting that would be having to run out a full game but also break free of a bear hug at every single stoppage? Anyone having to do that would be absolutely pooped, I can see why Cotch might've been exhausted from it. Not saying it was a good look but there's a pretty obvious reason that he might've been lagging behind a little.

As for Caff being smacked to the ground and whatever well that's just what you've got to expect if you're going to employ bullshower tagging tactics, I would be disappointed in the Tigers if noone put him down a couple of times.

Keeper27

he's doing his job, sure he pushed the boundaries but then it's the umps job to tell him where those boundaries end.
the ump didnt do his job properly. plain and simple.

Bully

No shame in going down to Macaffer, he's the second best tagger in the comp by quite some margin. As for the tactics, until the umps start penalisng him then he should continue to do what he's doing. Crowley also pushes the boundaries but that's what makes him such a formidable opponent.

If taggers get away with this shower, then teams would be forced to pick a muppet each week to play a rolling hit man type role every week to take out the opposition tagger. They'd get rubbed out, so the next week you'd have to pick another muppet/thug. A lot like Anthony Franchina, Matthew Hogg etc. May need to extend team playing lists though with all the suspensions...
