MELBOURNE defender James Frawley has put a $800,000 bounty on his head to switch clubs.

The out-of-contact Demon has delayed contract talks with his club and his manager has spoken to several clubs under the free agency rules.

It's understood two clubs, believed to be Carlton and Hawthorn, have been told that $800,000 is the ballpark figure which would extract the All Australian from the Demons.

It's also believed Fremantle, an active player in the free-agency market last year, would be another interested party.

St Kilda, where his uncle Danny Frawley captained, and Greater Western Sydney would also be suitors.

Frawley's manager Alex McDonald did not return calls last night.

If Frawley does leave, and Melbourne finishes last on the ladder, it would get pick No.1, and then pick No.2 as compensation for Frawley.

just what Melbourne need. more friggen draft picks.

bad time to be a bottom team the last couple years. flowerin Gold Coast and GWS, now Melbourne maybe having 1 and 2 and getting the pick of the best KPP players in the upcoming draft.

still early in the year so hopefully Melbourne can get a couple of wins under their belt

Pick 2 for Frawley and the Hawks only got pick 19 for Buddy.

So much facepalm.

I dunno who would pay him 800k a year to be honest. I mean he's good but thats a fair chunk of cap right there.

quinny88

Such a load of absolute crap this compensation stuff. How can they get pick 2 for Frawley! If they have any brains they will tell him he wont be getting a game next year so he leaves!

This is one of the reasons he has put an 800 k price on his head. If he leaves he gets a huge pay packet that he is not worth while the club receive more then adequate compensation. It works out for both himself and the club.

"In a move which has shocked the entire league, James Frawley has signed a 10 year, $8 million contract with Sydney. The move which still needs to be cleared by the AFL will see Sydney's list reduced to just three players with Frawley joining Kurt Tippett and Lance Franklin in a formidable three pronged line up. When asked about the Swans game plan heading into the 2015 season Frawley was upbeat 'Sure, it will be a challenge but I think I can cover the back half pretty well, Buddy can jump a bit so he'll ruck then follow up with the clearances and we all know what Kurt is capable of so I have faith he can kick a winning score". When asked what would happen in the event of injuries Frawley was less confident 'I guess we'd be rooted mate'.

The rumour mill has already ramped up, with speculation that Sydney are now chasing a mega trade which would see Franklin, Tippett and Frawley on sold to Carlton for the services of Bryce Gibbs who would then shoulder the entire fortunes of the Swans for the next decade."

Beautiful work Craig, this is well done.

But yeah, Frawley's like to be on the move regardless of where Melbourne finish imo (since the chances are it won't be outside of the bottom 4).

Pick 2 as compensation is crazy though.

The rule is that the pick comes after the club's actual pick in the draft order though isn't?

Purple 77

I'd be surprised if he doesn't leave. I wouldn't hold it against him either, the amount of losses he has had in his career game tally is unprecedented.

Oh yay, another high draft pick. Least Paul Roos' won't stuff the young guys up, and hopefully he rubs his development skills off onto his predecessor.

Toga

Yeah you'd think he's more likely to leave than stay at this point in time. Although 800K a season seems to be a huge amount :o

Hawthorn would certainly have the money, and a key position defender is probably their weakest point at the moment so would be a good suit.

Hopefully if the Dees do get a high draft pick for him they can fill the hole that has been left in their forward line by recruiting a gun tall forward from the KPP draft, or even on-trade one of the picks for some more established talent.

Jroo

If I was a Melbourne supporter I'd want him to leave.
Pick 1 and 2 would be awesome, especially with all the young talent they already got.

JBs-Hawks

Cant see him getting 800k a year anywhere so guess he is staying at Melbourne.
