Cant wait to see everyone jump onboard the Merrett train this week and then him pump out a 62 against a Freo team that will have something to prove after the Hawks game. Have fun guys  ::)

Im staying well clear myself

Yeah boat has sailed, if he keeps it up then an upgrade target.

Yep... Im going to watch him for another week or too.. If he keeps it up I will get him in at around 400k which is still cheap but I can see him dropping off this week.

me

it's one of those that you can't win with ... u don't get him and he keeps pumping out good scores, you do get him and he stinks it up

i might flick caddy to him, so sick of caddy, another one for the blacklist

Toga

Really not sure on this one. Tempted to bring in him for a cash grab as he has a negative breakeven going into this weekend but I'm very weary of him crashing and burning as others have mentioned :-[

Wanting to find out the breakevens of Higgins & Lachie Hunter before I make the call (as it would prob be one of them making way).

Would like to hear what an Essendon supporter has to say on his role/output and whether it will change!

He may gain attention like Polec did against the Roos as well.. Is he an influential player on the field or only in DT?

Commentators were raving about him throughout the game(especially in the second half), talking of his improvement, his ability to rack up numbers across the board and also how he has matured and is playing his best footy to date. While not being absolutely dominant and a stand out in games he is still playing well and while he might not get tagged specifically, opposition sides will definitely be aware of him, his current form and what he can do a lot more after his start to the year.

and you'll think they'll send someone to him over the likes of Watson/Stanton/Goddard/Chappy?
HA!

Did you even read what i said mate? Being more aware of a player does not mean sending a player to him. He had the second most clearances of the game, the equal most for the Bombers with 5, had 23 uncontested possessions and 10 marks. His efficiency was just under 72 which isn't elite but still very good. I am not saying he demands a tagger at all, albeit the best one over Watson/Stanton/Goddard/Chappy, but on those stats you could say that an opposition side will be aware of him picking up uncontested marks and disposals around the ground. While they may have let him run off to do his own thing every time in the first 3 rounds, all it will take them now is to man him every so often, not with a specific player but merely whoever is closest, and this would prevent the cheap marks and uncontested possessions. Even at a stoppage they may not leave him free to run rather just be 'aware' of him and his positioning every so often. So before you jump to conclusions maybe check the definition of awareness before laughing and mocking what someone has said.

+1
hahaha Pommyadams first fully comprehend before replying. Polec wasn't tagged against the Roos. But like jmoynihan said they were aware of his presence and took precautions to limit his output to 1 disposal in the first quarter by preventing the ball from falling out of the pack (where Polec usually waits to collect it) among other things.

I'm going to wait a few weeks because to get Merrett I'll have to downgrade T. Mitch and I don't feel comfortable with that trade. This week I'll be contemplating Cox or Mummy as R1. However, if Wingard is out this week... Merrett it is (Nroo is too expensive now to consider as an upgrade)

With the likes of Polec, it's him/Boak/Wingard/Cornes/Wines, so there's very limited options there

whereas at Essendon there are numerous options (Heppell seems to be stepping up, and Carlisle got a few possies [for the main ruckman]) so it's not as important

vs Carlton, Essendon had 7 players over 25 disposals, whereas Port only had 2 (and that was a unfitter Carlton too)

as for DT, yeah Merrett's doing quite well now, but I'd be holding off for this week (Freo won't be that bad again) but might look at him next week (Essendon have a lovely pre-bye run after Freo)

"him/Boak/Wingard/Cornes/Wines" add Ebert, Hartlett, Gray/Monfries/Westhoff/White (on occasion), this is the team with probably the most midfield depth in the comp. however I do understand your point as the uncontested ball winners are Hartlett, Polec, Ebert & Cornes so they will gain the attention (although teams keep tagging Boak for some reason hahaha I don't under why haha). Essendon has Stanton, Heppell (it is pointless to tag Watson or Goddard) but yeah Chapman and Hibberd do share most of the attention up forward and down the back. Port share possession & goal scoring duties more than almost every other team, that explains the possessions. I avoid dt players from my own club because they'll never go +110, they work as a unit rather than 5 star players and 17 'others'. Hawthorn (masters of the playing style), Collingwood & Geelong (to an extent) are the other club that play this style of football. That's why the Hawks don't have any major dt players (uber premos). Cornes is arguably one but personally I dissent

I reckon the commentators only raved about him because of his numbers, you know how they are. I got him in for this game, and even watching and looking for him, he slips under the radar. He isn't particularly damaging, and doesn't have a laser guided kick like a Polec, nor does he provide as much drive. However, he looks like he has a serious tank, being able to power on past opponents into space even in the last quarter, hence so many uncontested possessions. He might not be super under the pressure Freo can bring, but Patersons is a big ground with a lot of space too.
