Last year's winner Dimmawitts:

Round 2: 2 trades
Round 3: 2 trades
Round 4: 2 trades

If there is a mistake, fix it

No trades round one....pffft....got lucky. ;D

I made about 346 trades round 1. Now looking to spend two in round 2 ;D

It was an estimate that could be missing a 1 in front of it...

I do find it funny how people get their sphincters tight when it comes to round two trading, after all the players that have been in and out of the team pre rd 1. "Let them show why you picked them in the first place" means you went into rd 1 100% confident in the team you eventually picked, which is never the case. Given another 24 hours I probably would have had a few different players in there, so just because it costs me a trade or two, I'll be changing my mind again and enjoying the ride ;D

People who want to trade, will trade.  People who dont, wont.   Regardless of what advice is given.

Always follow your gut.

Make the trades you know you absolutely need/want. Last year I went sideways Franklin -> Walker in week 2.  I had absolute faith in the decision but most importantly ... if I did get it wrong I would have felt better than not following my gut and getting it wrong.

I bought Franklin back after the bye .... ooops  :-[
I remember he kicked like 6 goals the game after the bye, but then it was back to 60's

I agree that's it's bad business to chase a one off good performance, but I see great value in fixing errors.

I will be trading out Pittard from my backline - as he reverted to a tagging role.  The question for me is who to replace him with..... (there are plenty of threads discussing this so no need to start another)

There just so tempting sitting there with so little protecting them  :D

Most players in contention for overall will be out of trades by then, gotta go hard early on to maximise points

Decide on what you want to achieve this year, and go for it. For me personally, my cash leagues are the priority, and finishing in the Top 2k overall with winning cash leagues is my goal, so wont trade early therefor wont have real chance for overall

I'd rather do that because you get nothing for 2nd

I love the round one trade talk.. it happens every year but do we ever learn?? ::)

We sit there like rich men feasting on our BIG FAT 30 TRADES.. ;D

What does it matter if I burn one or too.. Look how many I have we say!! :D

Then as the season wears on and the trades dwindle and FINALS approach, we are hit with the Injuries/suspensions/rested players.. AND YOU KNOW THAT WILL HAPPEN!! ???

And then when we need them the most, we sit in front of our screens and cry, " I WANT MY TRADES BACK!! >:("

WHY DID I BURN THOSE EARLY TRADES, WHY!! WHY!!!" :'(

Well it's that time of year, can you spare me a trade brother??

To be fair this has little perspective on how the season pans out as a whole. Yes I started with 30 trades, and my aim was to get 22 of the best players on field by the end. To achieve that, I make some tactical guesses and selections to begin with trying to get a team that balances point scoring potential and cash making. Then throughout the season I make trades based on how players are performing, what history they have, whether I feel like a cow has maxed out or a prem has bottomed out, and some injury trades. In my situation, I'm already down to only 4 trades left which I'm not happy about, but of my 30 I've lost 11 trades due to injury already this season. You can't ever account for that. I wasn't expecting to have to trade GAJ when I started with him. I didn't pick up Watson/Acres expecting them to play 1 game and then get injured. I've made 1 trade which I think was a reactive terrible decision, which was trading Caddy to J.Merrett. Other than that, I'm happy with every trade I've made, and some of them I've just been unlucky. Sure I'd love to have back the 4 trades that Watson and Acres cost me, but that doesn't mean they were bad calls at the time. And it's easy to say now that starting Swallow instead of Hurn would have saved me a trade in round 2. It's easy to say that Roughead was a bad inclusion, but hey, hindsight always wins. There's a big luck component and different people play different strategies...

Like me GCSkiwi you've probably been playing this game for years, so how the seaon has panned out is no real surprise anymore.. And as you correctly point out, luck plays it's part..

The post was not put on for deep perspective but more a toungue in cheek look at how every year we burn those trades only to be caught short at the end.

No doubt next year will be no different.

Not looking too deeply into it I still chuckle at myself and others who find themselves short yet again knowing that enevitably trades will be needed late in the season for the reasons outlined above.

As the first line says, When will we ever learn??

Good luck for the run home and use those remaining four trades wisely ;)

Ringo

GCSKiwi well said mate and each year is different Like you I have had to make 10 injury trades which is the most I have done over the last 4 years so you can not plan for that. I usually allow for 6 so the extra 4 have really cruelled me this year,
You can plan but cannot factor in these events so that is where luck comes in.  Suspect those with 5 plus trades have made less injury trades than 10.
