Does this annoy anyone? All the hours people put in and Herald sun just tells people how to pick A great team in 5 minutes

Pretty bad imo!

Not really annoying tbh, I could follw their rules and pick a pretty crap side out of that really. Plus there's good reasons to pick some players over others and reasons not to pick certain players on that list that you only know if you put in the effort. Going from them I could pick this team:

Bartel, Heater, Hibberd, McKenzie, R.Shaw, Cameron (Laidler Clurey)
Ablett, Libba, Boak, Beams, Vince, JMart, Cunningham, Crouch (Buckley, Robinson)
Kreuzer, Grundy (Wood, Nankervis)
Danger, NRoo, Parker, Zorko, Higgins, Merrett (McCarthy, Lloyd)

Now, there are 3 people in that team who are actually in my team. And while that selection isn't terrible, it could certainly be a heck of a lot better... Most of the people on that list are not that unfamiliar, it's the smokie mid pricers or the smart rookie picks that make the real difference...

Yeah, but people can basically say the same thing about this site :P

Haha good point Ossie!

My experience from reading this stuff before I was one to put "all those hours in" says there's nothing to worry about. Sure, following the limited advice the HS provides might give you a team in the top 10% of the competition and win you a league victory against your equally-inexperienced co-workers but it leaves you a long, long way from the top of the competition.

Southstorm

Although, I just had a look at the article and shower, they're practically spelling it out this year.

Ranking and leagues are won and lost through the season. Granted HS still puts out weekly insights and that a perfect starting team is the best base to build a number 1 team from but decision made through the season is what breaks the boys from the men. I'm not too worried about it all. All of my PODs aren't named so I'm more than happy :)

Must admit, most of my team is on there and that comes from before reading the list. Few PODs so happy with that - if they pan out.

A good coach can start with the exactly same team as a casual general public member and will probably finish a few thousand positions higher in the ranks.  What really matters are all the micro decisions that are made during the season.

Also how many people do you think will read this article who arnt gunna do any research?  The fact they would even look at it means they are atleast semi interested and highly likely already know how to make a decent enough starting team.

Southstorm

Probably less people will read it since it's hidden behind the subscription only feature of the HS, but still, I'd say a third of all supercoaches would have access to it at some point.

They did the "and two of these guys" last year as well. I find it somewhat annoying, but I think using that at the last minute... your not going to get a better or as good side as someone who has followed it closely and knows there stuff. Trading imo wins you the thing. An initial great side is of course huge, but it is easier these days for people to do that hence I think trading gets you 50K.

Sure alot of people would have access to it, but unless they are taking a passing interest, they probably wouldnt read it.   And anyone who is taking enough interest to read it are probably doing more research than just reading that one article.

Also anyone who is needing that article to make a decent starting team will not be any threat of winning overall.  It does help the casual player to win their office league etc. though, so good on em.

Talk about picking the best handful in each posi and at each price level and summing it up for everybody. Just let's all the crap people become competitive as u only need to worry about these lot not the whole 700. There aren't many there that people will have in their team as smokies secrets etc. they have pretty much all relevant players.
Pretty disappointing!!!!!

MC

Starting with a decent team guarantees nothing. It's the trades over the course of the year which will have the greatest impact. If you trade hard to keep your rank and are all out with 7 or 8 rounds to go then you're stuffed. If you get decent rookies at the start and don't know when to offload them and who to pick next - you're stuffed. So basically these 10-minute specialists might get a foot in the door early, but will drop out of the top 50k within a month or 6 weeks.

**Crawf also doesn't mention the byes - imagine picking 15 or 16 from the same bye without knowing...   ::)
