Where will MCVEIGH play and will it affect his scores?

He had a ripper last year partly due to form but partly due to mopping up and rebounding off HB.

Now that Shaw is back will he return to the mid/fwd rotation leaving Eski and Shaw at HB?

Will he score more like 90-95 as he usually does in the mids rather than 100-105?

If so surely it would be better to upgrade to him later on?

Swans Fans?

Looking over his career averages, worst case scenario is he goes on to average 95 this year

You can not start, and pick him up later after he drops in price, but I am just starting him because he is set and forget, and its not worth a trade later on just to get him 50k cheaper, plus theres every chance he goes on to average similar to last year

Good points. Some players u just have to spend a bit extra on. But 570+ is SOO expensive for the backline when ur not even guaranteed 100?

Longmire has said on record that McVeigh will not be moving from his role from last season.

This will release players like Mitchell & Parker to get more midfield time. McVeighs numbers in the finals last year were scary. Swans have too many players to tag so I expect the same output from him in 2014

I think a lot of it is mindset. We are so used to Defenders being the lowest scorer, hence not wanting to spend much on them, but this year we get to put a few midfielders in our backline

Think of it like this Your getting a midfielder who averaged 106 last year, putting him in the top 25 or so mid scorers, but you get to get him in your backline now, over a pure def only option like Scott Thompson

I repeat, you definitely should have started posting earlier. This is the exact reason right here, same as why Danger is a lock in the forwards, as Rocky was last year. Players in the midfield in the game tend to rack up the biggest scores in supercoach, if you can pick a person playing mid as a forward or defender in SC, then jump on!

Dayze

He is tempting and he will do well. But he doesn't have a whole lot of upside.
Last season was abit out of character for his scoring.
U can't really trust a premium with only one year of premium output.
If he were to put in a season at 95, priced at 106 that is a big loss.
As opposed to a guy like hurn priced near 85 who should average 90 and potentially 95.

Mcveigh will b my first defense upgrade target possibly round 11

McVeigh is clearly coming into his prime as a footballer, he scored a whopping 184 in the finals (which incidentally isn't registered in his starting price) and the Swans have a dream draw running into the byes. He may drop but as others have suggested, why do without a clear top 6 defender for the sake of 50k. McVeigh is set and forget personified.

For the record, his top scores last year were 184, 150, 144, 143, 131, 125 & 123 (twice). Leave him out at your peril.

Yes but that was largely due to his role? He has never avg 100+ before and that's playing mostly midfield.

I posted something similar months ago but got little response. I know IN THEORY picking a midfielder as a defender is SC gold but he has never avg 100+ as a mid.

Cheers for the replies tho guys I appreciate it. If I could get more confirmation that he will have the same role he is definitely in.

I realise the 100 figure has eluded McVeigh but he's gone near enough for me to lock him in. He's amazingly consistent and over the past 6 years has registered averages of 99, 98, 93, 93, 98, 106.

But all things aside, there's plenty going for him this year. The Swans have a great early draw and McVeigh will no doubt prosper.

Based on last year's scores here's how it could pan out.

vs GWS (144, 143 =143.5)
vs Coll (106, 150 = 128)
vs Adel (105)
vs North (123)
vs Freo (94, 105 = 99.5)
vs Melb (123)
vs Bris (98)
vs Haw (88, 66 = 77)
vs Ess (116)

average=112

Based on this I can't see him dropping too much, if at all. Like I mentioned in a previous post, McVeigh is entering his prime years and with a star studded Sydney line-up, I think he'll be in the thick of things again.

One of my first picked. See him and Mitchell as must haves.
