Don't forget he's already spent a year part time at the Roos, did their pre-season last year and then trained with them once a week during the season, they love him down there, there's a spot on half back for him and most importantly he is a gun. Could see the vest potentially in a few early games but he has much better JS than any defensive rookie.

OK, but what if Clurey, Langford, Langdon. Cameron and Georgiou all get named in rd1. Is McDonald still required? Can he be put in D5?

I think McDonald has to be a lock at D6. I'm pretty sure Langdon and Langford will both get early games too so they make up my bench. 3 premos with Suckling at D4 and a mid pricer at D5

Is he really a lock? I've had him at D5 and 6, but when at 5 it means we are going with a cheapo at D6, but just simply assuming McDonald is a lock to play every week and not get vested seems a bit

For the first time all year, I have just completely taken him out of my side, and kept Suckers at D5, and by doing that I feel much more comfortable fielding a cheap rookie at D6, because now I only need one of D6-8 to play each week, and not rely on 2 just incase McDonald doesn't get named, or starts as sub

The extra 60+k I save by not picking him, and not having to rely on 2 def rookies to play each week has me feeling really good about not picking him

Agree mate. Have been saying for a while now that he may really struggle to get game time unvested in a very strong North side. Yes he has spent a year in the VFL already, and yes he will be a very very good player but game time is the question. I currently don't have him and if Georgiou is elevated LMac will be locked out of my side.

I did a thread about this a while ago and most people said he is a must have and talked me into locking him in.

Right now though, he's not in my side and I have managed to squeeze Higgins back to F6 which makes me feel quite comfortable.

Will need to have a playing rookie defender each week but the floating donut should make it work for me.

Worst that can happen is you trade him out for a performing rookie defender as a correction (assuming your d7 and d8 are sweet) and you bank the difference.

Going to run the risk with McDonald D5 and Brodie Martin D6.. Very risky but should work out..

I've got them two as D5 and D6 aswell and if they aren't playing well then ther. Is a downgrade option in Laidler hopefully :)

Cutlers numbers aren't fantastic however he's been playing all preseason games.

I've spent an extra 60k to get Webster in at D5.   D6-8 between Clurey, Langdon, Georgiou, Langford for now. Gotta hope someone else puts their hand up. hasn't set the world on fire in first 2 nab games with scores of 52 and 69.

I think Clurey will play Round 1, but not sure how many more after that once Carlisle and Trengove are back. I have him in at the moment.
