A good waste of money.

Doesn't score enough as a prem midfielder to be worth it. 2nd/3rd tier mid, I don't think he would finish in the top 20.

shaker

Lost his appeal with his dual position gone

Ricochet

Has the ability to be a top 2 mid but I think there's too much uncertainty around the bombers this year to take that kind of risk

:o did you miss a 0 after that 2?? Goddard to beat Ablett or Pendles???? (or Jelwood or Swan??). Not a chance at top 2, but I get the feeling you didn't mean that...

One season with an elite level average does not make an elite midfielder. The next best average he has is 115, and he has 7 seasons with averages under 110...

Mate if you're going to take a single year average out of context of that player's average from other seasons and out of context of the other players in the group, then there's about a million people who have "the ability" to be a top 2 mid... In reality that's a hugely misleading way to look at it. But whatever. All I'm saying is that there will need to be several catastrophic season ending injuries for Goddard to become worth picking as a mid at all, let alone top 2.

Lol seriously mate? Your jumping all over this little comment?
I said he has the ability to be a top 2 mid. He averaged 130 in 2010 and 116 the year before. So he has proven to be an elite scorer in the past
I then said it is too risky to start him

How exactly was I wrong?

For the record, of the top 10 averaging mids... GaJ is the only other player that has averaged over 130.

GCSkiwi

I was incredulous that you said he had the ability to be a top 2 mid. Like I genuinely thought you must have meant top 20 because you're switched on and you deal out a lot of good advice. Then you backed it up by saying he's averaged 130 before, like you're genuinely implying he has a chance to be a top 2 mid. I'm just pointing out the fallacies in that statement. It's not just risky to start him, it's stupid. The way you phrased your statement made it sound like there's a reason to consider picking him. There really isn't.

There is still nothing wrong with my statement though mate. He does have the ability to be a top 2 mid, not that I can see that happening this year. But that doesn't change the fact that he can go there. Ando has been obviously considering him so instead of saying thats stupid, why would you consider him, etc, etc. and being blunt, I said its too risky to start him and gave him a reason.

GCSkiwi

Ok. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, because I believe there is no way he has the ability to be a top 2 mid. Ultimately an issue of semantics and tense. I don't think any of us were being blunt (well, maybe doc :P) as both myself and shaker implied that the scoring ability in his position was the main reason not to pick him. I think that succinctly and reasonably assesses the situation.
