I must admit I didnt expect him to play, but in the channel 7 news interview with Ross he said that he will most likely only play if something is wrong with Pav, Sandi or Hannath.

No no.  Meaning that he is there purely as insurance "In Case" something happens to one of them.  In case someone does a Fyfe and injures themselves on their suitcase :)
