Currently I have Higgins in my team, but I am not at all convinced it's a good idea.
Any suggestions as to what to change around? Or perhaps I take the risk on him?

Just putting it out there, is it really such a bad thing to have Higgins? He's definitely under-priced if he can manage to avoid injury and, as badly as he's been injured before, there's still every chance he'll just have a solid year and stay fit!

Mr.Craig

He's priced at 50 and hasn't averaged below 70 for 6 years. Between 2009 and 2012 he averaged 17 games a season.

I'd agree with you Huggy, if we had unlimited trades. Having limits on trades makes me way too uneasy on Higgins.
I can't see a way to jiggle him out of the team at the moment though, so might have to take the punt. No one ever won this thing by playing it safe right?

Now I'm contemplating Higgins......

Playing it safe definitely has its plusses but also a lot of minuses. Go for it, I say! You can even trade him out by round 9 when he's earned a lot of cash! Just imagine if he averaged 80 until then!!!

he's in my side for that reason
granted as my F6 with Parker in the midfield as a switch option, but still

also, 4 premo's with the rd8 bye? ouch (Cotchin, Swan, Gaj and Pendles)

Although a lot of people are starting without Swan, a lot still have Cotchin, Gaj, Pendles, and Beams (note that Alka doesn't have Pendles but does have Beams). I think this will be fairly common. Not sure how to avoid that problem when there are so many arguments in favour of starting all five of those guys!

Alka

Just switched out Swan for Pendles, which allowed me to upgrade Watts to Grimes. I really want a Melbourne defender, due to their playing style this year, but I've been convinced away from Watts. He could spend some time forward with their forward troubles, and just seems a bit risky.

Doesn't solve the bye problem at all, but like you say, plenty will have that issue. I've adopted a "we'll see what happens" approach to byes, given the last two years I planned meticulously and both times things fell apart due to unforeseen circumstances.

Oh, and I still have Higgins.  :)

This is the best advice you can give to anyone new to fantasy. Bye suck but planning for them doesn't help. Someone in your team will get injured or a rookie will top out very early or someone will be playing absolutely horribly. I'm hoping to kinda plan for them a few weeks out...

The Cotchin comment clearly got to me. I ended up swapping him out last minute for Murphy. Currently... not very happy with that decision!

The problem was, with Cotch, I was very short on cash, and couldn't be flexible with rookies. I've since brought in Dunstan on my bench, and Michie is now Tyson. I also got Langdon for Langford.

So my current team:
B: Mitchell, Hanley, Simpson, Grimes, Suckling, McDonald. (Langdon, Georgiou)
C: Ablett (c), Pendles, Rockliff, Beams, Murphy, Tyson, Polec, Ellis (Dunstan, M. Crouch)
R: McEvoy, Sandi (Currie, Thurlow)
F: Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Caddy, Higgins, Rohan (JKH, Honeychurch).
