Hey all,

I feel that I have finally settled on my team leading into Round 1 of SC. Lot of work has gone into this, lot of research, but now I would like some opinions from people better than myself. Really want to push for a top 10k spot this year.

Here it goes, please any constructive critcism is welcome.

DEF: J. McVeigh, S. Mitchell, P. Hanley, D. Swallow, B. Martin, J. Laidler (T. Langdon, M. Fuller)

McVeigh, Mitchell were locks. Hanley I feel can still improve, and I'm hoping Swallow follows in his brothers footsteps for a massive 4th year breakout. No McDonald with good reason. Tell me who in Norths rock solid defence does he push out in order to debut? Can't see it happening, and if he somehow does, it'll be with a sub vest on. Martin might be a better option due to Adelaides recent injuries, but not sold either. Big question on Laidlers JS, but he's in for now. Those two final spots are tough to fill...

MID: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, T. Libertore, D. Beams, D. Thomas, V. Michie, J. Polec, X. Ellis (L. Dunstan, M. Crouch)

Quite like my mid setup at the moment. Ablett and Pendles were locks, a team without them will always struggle early on. Libba is a good POD and I can't see his average slowing down. Beams was a lock at that price, and fingers crossed he can recover some of that 2012 form. Thomas I'm still iffy on, thinking that there may be better value in someone like Dom Tyson, but Thomas might make a handy stepping stone, so he's currently in. As for the others, they're some of the best valued rookies IMO.

RUC: M. Lobbe, A. Sandilands (J. Thurlow, T. Derickx)

Lot of love for Lobbe at the moment looking at his finish to 2013 and with Redden out due to injury. Hoping this holds true, but he's one of three (D. Swallow, T. Liberatore and M. Lobbe), that keep changing every few minutes (J. Thurlow and Luey were an option). With Bellchambers out, I'm hoping that Thurlow might get an early look in. Similarly with Sydney, with no Mumford and no Tippett early on, they may look to Derickx or Naismith to help him out.

FWD: P. Dangerfield, D. Martin, C. Wingard, T. Mitchell, A. Fasolo, G. Rohan (J. Kennedy-Harris, M. Honeychurch)

Really dig my forward line. Lot of upside to it. Dangerfield was a lock, and I can see Martin improving his average. Wingard is a jet, and I'm hoping for further improvements again now into his third season. Mitchell is another POD here, but he is a favourite of mine, and looking at how explosive he was in the NAB Challenge (highest average points per minute), ooo watch out. Fasolo and Rohan are both returning from injury and will flourish and IMO represent better value than the rookies available. JHK and Moneybags are the best of a thinly spread bunch IMO, but we'll wait and see if they are named Round 1.

So thats it. Only got $4,400 left, but I reckon its a solid team across the board. But I'm interested in your opinion. How do you rate this team? :)

Solid team (Not sure about the "North rock solid defence" comment though?? :o).

Only problem I see is no DPP mids. I fell for that trap last year and paid the price. As much as it's great to have the like of Dangerfield and Martin in the forward line, sometimes it's worth putting one of them in the midfield.

Titch>> gunsten
B martin>> suckling my only advice

When I say "rock solid defence" I mean that you have McMahon, Firrito, Grima, Thompson, and then any two of MacMillan, Atley, Mullett and Hansen in North's best 22 (can't believe I'm saying Hansen is still in North's best 22...), plus you've also got McKenzie, Hine, Tippett and Jacobs to consider as well. Pretty tough backline to push into as a debutant...pretty solid.

Never been a fan of DPPs, for the main reason being, in any instance, a bench player will be coming on the field and realistically, if you're using a DPP to cover a void, it means you're bench in that position is very weak, which it shouldn't be..... :/ Just make sure your rookies are strong and you're set.

I can see Mitchell averaging higher than Gunsten. Thanks, but no thanks.

As for Martin to Suckling....I can't afford that. Martin is $175k and Suckling is $312k.

WCarey18

Thinking of one change:

D. Thomas -> D. Tyson
B. Martin -> J. Thurlow (not enough for Suckling)

Thoughts?

maygs

Why would you change that team.  It's the same as everyone else's!

maygs

OK, sarcasm is all I had.

Def rookies:  Langford is a good chance for early games with Lake out (IMO)  Might be better value than Langford - But I'm sure you're planning on seeing Rd1 teams before locking in your rookies.

WCarey18

Yeah, as everyone should I'll wait until Rd 1 team sheets to finalise rookies.

richorocks

Lots of people on the Libratore band wagon at the moment. Great young player and looks a talent, but the year after his break out year.... I have my concerns.

Ablett, Pendls and Beams all the same Bye rnd too.

WCarey18

....okay, maybe one slight change. Oops lol.

DEF: J. McVeigh, S. Mitchell, P. Hanley, D. Swallow, M. Suckling, T. Langdon (M. Fuller, W. Langford)
MID: G. Ablett, S. Pendlebury, T. Liberatore, D. Beams, D. Tyson, V. Michie, J. Polec, L. Dunstan (H. Cunningham, M. Crouch)
RUC: M. Lobbe, A. Sandilands (T. Derickx, J. Thurlow)
FWD: P. Dangerfield, D. Martin, C. Wingard, T. Mitchell, J. Caddy, J. Kennedy-Harris (J. Impey, M. Honeychurch)

OUT: B. Martin, D. Thomas, A. Fasolo, G. Rohan, J. Laidler, X. Ellis
IN: M. Suckling, D. Tyson, J. Caddy, J. Impey, W. Langford, H. Cunningham

CASH LEFT: $12,800

Feeling much more confortable now. Ellis and Thomas's fitness, Laidler, Fasolo and Martin's JS, Rohan's ceiling all bothered me. Suckling, Caddy are much better options, Tyson has better upside, and the rookies hopefully should line up Round 1, but guess I'll have to wait and see. But happier now. Thoughts on the new side?  :)

Defence is solid try and get McDonald in if possible! but looks solid

I like it very solid like the 4 rookies as they will generate most cash

Rucks are standard

I don't like wingard and Mitchell I think you could downgrade to Higgins and Franklin and then spend the money on McDonald!

I would go

Wingard>Franklin
Mitchell>Higgins
Langden>McDonald
and if you have heaps of money maybe go Cunningham>Ellis

rate my team at http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,90900.0.html

WCarey18

People need to realise that McDonald wont play Round 1. He wont be pushing out any one of McMahon, Firrito, Thompson, Grima, Atley, MacMillan, Hansen or Mullett whom all will/might feature down back. Then you have McKenzie, Tippett, Jacobs, Hine as well to consider.

Plus think about how many rookies North debuted last year and how many games they all played. Scott doesn't like putting them in early, McDonald is no exception.

Therefore he is a waste in my and any SC team early on.

Plus, Higgins and I dont get along very well, he's burnt me before and I'll never get over that pain. Not to mention Mitchell will score far better than Higgins ever will, so why downgrade....

Appreciate the feedback, but doesn't help me.

Anthonyyyy

Nah fair enough I really hope he does though but still I don't like Wingard try and get him out
