McDonald & Rohan as D5 & F5 - too risky?

Hey guys,

Getting to the business end of the preseason now, and currently working on a team structure that sees Luke McDonald ad D5 and Gary Rohan at F5... But I'm wondering if this is too risky?

It means I have 4 premium forwards and backs, 1 premo ruck (Minson/Cox/Goldy) with Sandi, then 4 premium midfielders with Dale Thomas. Which looks nice and balanced.

The only downside is relying on a rookie to field the last forward and defender spots.

However, surely you will be able to grab three of these guys to fill these positions:

DEF: Clurey, Georgiou, Langdon, Fuller, Aylett, Clay Cameron, Langford, Tippett, Cutler
FWD: JKH, Kersten, Lloyd, Taylor, Markworth, Towers, Honeychurch, Impey, Merrett

Just doesn't seem right not having a true rookie in those spots!

Any thoughts?

If the rookies pop up then sure.....i think you would be lucky to have 3 rookies in defence and forward to be named round 1 though....we are all praying there are though.

Currently i don't even have McDonald or Rohan on the field just in case the rookies nearly completely dry up

This is an area where you have to go with gut and make the decision yourself.

Basically will depend on your premiums v the score you think rookies will make,  Also need to factor in upgrades as well. So if going for overall you need to just calculate the extra premium points v 2 rookies in forward and defence.  Looks like you should be able to field 2 rookies or low priced players in defence and forward each week but that can change very quickly.

You just need to sort out what structure you prefer:
Mine atm is:
Def: 3 prem 2 mid pricers and 3 rookies
Mids: 4 prem and 6 rookies low priced
Rucks: Premo and Sandi who is a premo
Fwds: 3 prem 2 mid pricers and 3 rookies low priced eg Rohan, Bock, Fasola etc.

That's definitely what it will come down to! It won't work so well if none of these rookies are named for round 1.

The other option is to try and fit Suckling and Caddy/Higgins/Bennedy in at D5 and D6, but I would definitely prefer to have a good set of premiums across all lines, with two solid mid pricers

If the rookies i have at D5,6 and F5,6. Are named then it will stay like that

Of those you mentioned I would only be comfortable with maybe Langford and Honeychurch for a F6 or D6 position both in terms of scoring potential and JS outside a vest.

Rohan at F5 worries me much less than LMac at D5. There seem to be quite a few forward rookies who could realistically get up and about (remembering you have 2 bench spots to fill after D6/F6 also), from your list I think Taylor and Impey are longshots but the rest have a chance, though if named vest is a big concern - though there's still others like Lennon or Bock if they're fit...
Defence, I'm not confident any of the names on that list will get a run. I need them to fill bench spots but no way would I count on 3 of them playing to fill a field spot also. Langdon and Georgiu may benefit from injury to other players but for how long will they be in?

Reason why you've completely ruled him out? Played in the last NAB Challenge game. Set to play in the praccy game this wkend. Was a gun junior. In a weak side. I did say maybe though. Not 100% on any of those names tbh

And I meant to say Langdon too, not Langford.

Just don't think Honeychurch has done enough to be honest or impressed enough to warrant a round 1 selection.

Bulldogs already have alot of those players in their side that can play the same sort of role that Honeychurch plays too but better.
