The misconception seems to be that COLA was the only reason that Franklin and Tippett came to Sydney.

COLA has been in place for a while now, there's no point in arguing that people only care now that Franklin and Tippett have come.

As Colless said, its annoying that the club is getting a lot of flak for simply managing finance better than most clubs.

It's done though, and later this year they'll try find another club with too many "free handouts" to bury

I'm pretty tired lol so i was a bit overly critical.

Not that angry that COLA was taken away as long as they change it like they say they will, just the means in which change comes about in AFL is a bit frustrating

I dont believe that a player on $100k a year needs to have a COLA. First year players, especially the rookies should get it but once you go over the $100k take it away.

It is tough living in Sydney living off $100k a year but then you start dating people like Bingle and then $100k is not enough

Why dont interstate players that move to Melbourne get this either??

THE SYDNEY Swans have been forced to put player contract negotiations on hold for the past month as they wait for the AFL to rule on how extensively their controversial cost-of-living allowance will be cut from 2015.

Swans players set to come out of contract at the end of this year include free agents Adam Goodes, Nick Malceski, Ryan O'Keefe and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, along with Mike Pyke, Rhyce Shaw, Craig Bird, Harry Cunningham, Alex Johnson, Jordan Lockyer, Tim Membrey and Xavier Richards.

Despite initial suggestions that the Swans' COLA might be scrapped altogether from 2015, AFL.com.au understands it will be cut back so that only players on the bottom half of the Swans' wages scale will receive an extra allowance for living expenses.

It is believed the AFL will announce its revamped COLA rules and wider equalisation policy ahead of the Australian Hall of Fame function on June 4, the night before outgoing CEO Andrew Demetriou's final day at the League.

Why on hold?

The Swans have always said they negotiate contracts,  and add cost of living after that. They've always implied they give it evenly across the board.

So how does it make negotiations different?

Because it isn't that simple,  and never has been

As far as im aware Goodes and ROk are now on the vetrans list so we only have to have half their pay under the salary.

Personally i think they are waiting for the AFL to say everyone over a certain price per year wont be getting the allowance.

ROK may go but will the Hawks want him??

I meant Victorian based club yeah. Hawthorn springs to mind
