OK, so we are going to have to roll the dice and make some premature calls without even knowing who will and will not get named in week 2 of rd1

Below is a list of each game of Rd1, the SC relevant players that we need to make a call on, and lets discuss what we need to be factoring in as to who to pick. If a player from week 1 gets named, but we would rather a player from week 2 to take his spot, how do we make that call? We don't know if that player is getting a game in week 2. What are we going to do?

Once teams are announced we are going to need to make a decision on whether or not we pick these guys, and will be comfortable giving them that position in our team.

Eg/ You might want Kersten, McCarthy, Impey etc at D7, but then you see Rohan is named for Rd1 but you don't know if one of the fwd rookies will get named until the following week, and that extra 50k allows you to bolster up another spot - what do you do?

Hopefully this list will assist you with your planning and get you thinking forward about how what picks you make from week 1 will impact your structure, and what could backfire in week 2 etc

I have listed the common names I have been seeing regularly appear here and may have missed a few

I'll take just about whoever is named round 1 :P

For rookies, if guys like Polec, Clurey, Impey are named week 1, they're in. Possibly Laidler as well (rookie priced). Rohan is a lock too, although he should be best 22 just about all year I would assume. Not really many others that I'm looking at for week 1.

Hey RD - can I call you Daisy?

It's a pity the cheer/boo thingy is defunct.

You would have a high C to B ratio.

cortez

Not liking JKH in the second last game, don't want him on ny bench and not named!

Dayze

Im the original Daizy doc...

U have been a keen contributer RD u remind me of a young Vinny.

Langdon being named is a big one. If he is we are off to a flyer. If not we are all gonna have to shuffle McDonald to D6, which id rather not.
Good write up bro, split first round is a real nightmare. Then we have to factor in subs....This game used to b easier

frogjumper

Well it looks like the rookies playing second week will have to take the risks on.
Someone like Crouch could very easily not be selected. Same thing happened with Brad Crouch last year (took to r8 to break into the team)

Bold are the players I have. My main concern is that my plan was to downgrade either Buddy or Pav to someone like Hogan or Higgins if my rookies aren't named as I don't have a lot of spare cash. Obviously this comes with a large issue that the players I might swap are playing early and the targets I would swap to are playing late. Plus I won't actually know if my rookies from the hawks and demons (my biggest concerns) are named or not. What I'm thinking is to leave my team as it is, and round 1 will decide whether or not I really have a tilt at overall... Best I've ranked is top 2k so I realise I probably need a few more seasons under my belt but round 1 might quickly decide for me if I even have a chance! Round 1 has no bearing on league so it's not really a big deal if you're just going for league. Certainly headaches for those wanting to have a serious go at overall.

[edit] - added Nankervis and Derickx to Sydney's list ;)

It will pan out how it should. You cant re-arrange your team to just consist of week 1 of R1 players. Just stick to your preferred team and hope for the best for week 2.

Not necessarily stacking your team with round 1 players But I'll be surprised if the person who wins overall this year adopts a "pick and pray" mentality. They will absolutely be assessing this risk and planning contingencies for players not getting up in round 1.

Rusty00

Higgins and particularly NicNat are the worrying ones. If they are late withdrawals 90 minutes before the game you are left with nothing :-\

shaker

If you are not going to pick rookies and cheap players in the first part of round you will probably need some good cash to rectify any problems that come in the second lot of games with rookies you were counting on not getting named

RD is fine - Dayze is the OG here

FantasyFreako seems to think that Langdon is a near lock to play rd1, so that will be huge if happens

GCSKiwi - Don't know how I totally forgot about Derickx and Nank - added them. The names you bolded are identical to the players I have too

For me, I think if Langdon, Bennedy, Rohan and one of Derickx/Nankervis get named that will really help us out, and someone like a Clurey for Port would assist too

I guess I just wanted to map this out in this thread, so being able to visually see it instead of just thinking about everything I can start to look and say, if he doesn't get named, I have him and him to fall back on week 2 etc

eaglesman

I will be shocked if langdon is named round 1 ... did not look ready for mine ... I actually hope he isnt named so i can take the gamble on langford .. in saying that I would love to see clurey named also which would make things interesting

going to the eagles scratchy to watch nic nat ... the fact that he is in the second week doesnt necessarily worry me as I will pick cox, mcevoy, goldy, simpson with confidence

i think with the early split round a smart option would be to go into the season carrying some extra cash just in case .. i currently have around 180k left over selecting cox who would become nic nat if he looks good tomoro which gives further cash injection

I was big wraps on hogan early in preseason ... im surprised he isnt on more peoples radars

GCSkiwi

Hawks in the 2nd week is upsetting as I thought Langford and Hallahan looked really good in NAB but I'm not confident about them getting named. So if someone like Clurey, Langdon or Laidler is named early, the smart option would be to take them. But if Langford then did get named I think he can do better than those blokes.  Clurey andLaidler not too far behind I guess so I might just be a bit too greedy.

If Langdon is named I think I would put him in place of Hallahan on my mid bench, opens up a DPP link.

SC you Sunuvabeach...
