champ but older now, which doesn't mean he's worse....just old
If you look at his scores from last year he is worse. Contract talks isn't an excuse and even if it was, imagine all the pressure mounted on him now. The Swan's lost the COLA because of him, he's on a 9 year contract (the biggest contract in AFL history) and if he flops the Swan's are literally flowered (in a financial sense which we lead to a performance sense as well). If he couldn't handle the pressure of contract negotiations I think (subjective opinion) there is no way he'll be able to manage the immensity of what he agreed to sign. I usually don't judge by the NAB but he was horrible last year. Excluding the first few games & the 8 goal game against the Bombers he was shocking (empirically) and if I'm going to jump aboard and pick him above a prospective star like Chad or Tmitch I have to see some shred of evidence that he's improved. The only thing I can judge off is the NAB cup match and based off that game he'd have to vastly improve just to return to his abysmal 2013 output.

In my opinion there are much better options out there than Buddy, if you're going to pick a forward you're better off paying the starting price for JJK because he'll at least score goals. Also has anyone seen the Swan's forward line? No offense intended to Franklin -I know he can- but I doubt that he could even compete with Reid, Tippett, Tmitch & if Goodes plays he'll probably match his output if not exceed it.

I think jumping aboard Buddy is more risky than picking most other forwards because, he's not even that cheap. You could lose money and regret not paying that extra bit more or less. Pav will at least be a safe 80ish average with the chance of going 90+ and is significantly cheaper therefore entailing less risk. I think his move will curtail his output, badly. He's a key forward and his 100+ averages were with Hawthorn, due to him being a key position player we really can't include that as evidence that he'll repeat those figures as a KPP in a brand new club with a completely different forward line. In the Hawks his only competitor was Roughy and he strayed away into other positions. Buddy now has two rival key forwards meaning less game time or more competition for points (perfect for Swans but not for dreamteamers).

However regarding my previous proposition I must indicate an inference that because he's a KPP we can't include his scores from last season as well. Overall he'll either flop -or continue to be frustratingly mediocre- or he'll put Tippett & Reid out of business (only a one in three chance of that happening). My opinion is if he's so cheap why not wait two weeks before making the decision to jump on. I would not start him, I wouldn't want one avoidable score ruining my total in the first round. The Swans will beat GWS convincingly but I think GWS will keep the game at a 50pt margin. People are underestimating them but they are a fantastic group of young players and so far it looks like inclusion of Shaw has strengthened their back line and his rebounding abilities produced a lot of goals against the Saints (inevitably the wooden spooners this season).

Little yay if you have him at F4 with a strong F3, big yay if you can sneak him into F5

Good chance at the Coleman, if Mayne becomes a key forward this season he'll be Freo's top scorer but either way Walters will be racking up the goals through assistance from Mayne & Sylvia
