Just thought I'd throw my opinion out there for what our Round 1 will look like.

B: Alex Georgiou      James Frawley        Lynden Dunn

HB: Jack Grimes       Tom McDonald      Dean Terlich

C: Jack Watts           Daniel Cross         Sam Blease

HF: Jimmy Toumpas   Jack Fitzpatrick    Jeremy Howe

F: Jay Kennedy-Harris   Chris Dawes        Jesse Hogan

R: Jake Spencer       Dom Tyson       Nathan Jones

I: Jack Trengove      Viv Michie       Bernie Vince

SUB: Jack Viney

EMER: Matt Jones, Jordie McKenzie, Cameron Pedersen

Notes:

- Mitch Clark will not be ready for Round 1
- Alex Georgiou should be promoted for Riley
- Alex Georgiou will play until Colin Garland is fit
- If Roos opts for a shorter backline, then James Strauss will swap with Alex Georgiou
- McKenzie could play dependant on whether Roos wants a shut down player/uses McKenzie in a shut down role
- If either of Dawes or Hogan are unavailable then Pedersen comes in
- Viney as the sub, due to fitness. Roos also wants to lessen his load throughout the year
- Rohan Bail could be ahead of Sam Blease, based on his pre-season performances and training. However his kicking can be a liability.
- Dom Barry should debut at some stage this year
- Riley should get game time when fit, but will be competing with Michie
- Jamar, Gawn and Spencer will be fighting it out for the No.1 ruck position, with Fitzpatrick and/or Clark rucking for some of the game-time

Would have to agree with you there MTTY

I would love to see Blease in the team, but at the same time I'm not sure he truly deserves a spot. Struggles to get more than 10 disposals a match, but always seems to do a nice goal-on-the-run pretty much every match as well. If he can learn to run out a match, it will be interesting to see what player he will become.

Was also quite buoyed with the disposal difference against richmond! NAB match sure, but I like to think that is hint of what is to come.

Very keen in seeing Watts running with mids could be a good buy  ;)

And he will finally prove thousands of people wrong, and more importantly, my fine self right, that he will be a great player  8)

In saying that, I would prefer to see him as the loose man in defence, but still, will be interesting to see how he goes in the midfield

So, compared to the last St Kilda Team we faced, they are without McEvoy, Dal Santo, Montagna (suspension) and Steven (injured).

Do we, battered and bruised supporters, dare to dream of a round 1 victory? Or should we avoid that trap of hope?

Nope, I'm doing what I said I wouldn't do, I officially think we can win this match. I have hopes for a win!  8)

Jroo

Good stuff as always MTTY. Hopefully Georgiou plays round one.
Also, what are your thoughts on Grimes as an option in SC/DT?

Am i delusional or can we actually win 3 of the first 5?

Yes  ;D

I also believe we are in with a good chance of a round 1 victory. Provided two of Clark, Dawes, Hogan or Fitzpatrick are available.

On Grimes, JROO, I would stay away. I had him in one of my earlier teams, but have since gotten rid of him. Although he will return to the backline this season I can help but shake the feeling, especially early on, that he will play a far more lock down sort of role than running half back. (could even see him doing some tagging jobs, if Cross isn't used in that role/ McKenzie isn't best 22)

Cheers mate. Probably best to stay away, I don't even know why I'm considering him, he's burnt me sooooo many times before  :P

Same reasons I was considering him- he's cheap and we now have a midfield (well sort of).  ;D

What did you guys think of Watts? I could only catch the first half but from what I saw he looked more composed in a midfield role, and the team kept dishing the ball out to him as well. He still doesn't know how to tackle though

With Roos high-possession gameplan across half back and through the midfield, am I crazy for considering Lynden Dunn as a POD defender in DT/SC?

I rate Dunn haha. Was praying he would last to my first EXV Rookie Pick and he did! 8)

He will improve big time this year, haha. I won't pick him in DT/SC but he might be a suprise upgrade target in DT.

As Torp/Jukes/Moscow in WXVs will tell you, he's actually a really good option. He seems to score pretty well in SC so he's definitely an option as a POD.

I think he'll still always have his critics though.
