Everything would be so much more simple if NicNat was fit..  :-\ :'( Everybody would just have NicNat/Sanid combo and wouldn't have to worry.

I would not say that people would not have to worry , in 3 years out of a possible 66 games Sandi has played 32  :-\

REALLY hope he plays and plays well Thursday night. Don't want to change my team too much to bring in another ruck so would have to consider two cheaper rucks.

RaisyDaisy

I'm being forced to really start to look into these cheap ruck options

I've had NicNat and Sandi from day one, and it hasn't changed once, but one thing I have learnt over the years is that you don't pick someone who has had an interrupted preseason, it ALWAYS backfires on you eventually, and for that reason I am very hesitant on sticking with NicNat. I kind of wish he was priced 50k+ more so he wouldn't be so tempting

Sandilands on the other hand has had a full preseason and is locked, but perhaps I need to start considering guys like Hampson, Hickey and Lobbe...

Erghhh I get shivers at just the thought of actually having Hickey or Hampson in my side LOL

Dean Cox comes into serious consideration for me. He is exempt from the rule, age is no factor for him, and his had a ripping preseason.

Decisions decisions

i cant believe a hampson thread has even been created .. i know i said before that any 330k solo ruck should be considered ... but this bloke is absolutely useless

I think minson is a chance to have a fall from grace.
Goldy less likely

based on what - gut feel ?

I think it will be the opposite - Goldy was whinging about being tired in the second half of last season and North are very likely to play a 2nd ruck this season to give him a chop out. It may not be every game but they will want to manage goldy better this year.
Big Will on the other hand has stated he prefers to stay on the ground - if you watched him last year, in most games (especially against the other good rucks) at half time he was only breaking even or a bit behind his opponent, but he wears his opponent down and by the end of the game he is well ahead. His ruck work is not going to get any worse and he can still improve his work around the ground.

That said, IMO,  they are both too expensive to start them and I will look to upgrade to one of them post bye.

Based on the fact that minson took ten years to show anything.
Last year was the exception to his scoring.
I don't actually think he will drop off. I just think he is the more likely.

In saying that. If nic Nat doesn't look alrite I'm going leunberger. Even with his tough draw I think he is a gun and could end up in the top 2-3 ruck men. In only 2.8% of teams aswell which confuses me.

As a forward yes, as a ruckman no. His tap work is up there with the best of them, he also exerts a fair bit of pressure at ground level. For a guy who's 200cm, he's one of the best athletes in the AFL, probably only eclipsed by Naitanui. His leap his huge, he can run a sub 3 sec 20 metres and he's agile.

People need to realise that Carlton played him out of position for the majority of his career, he's not a forward and will never be one. Richmond recruited him to ease the burden on Maric, and not a moment too soon.

Incidentally, did you see his demolition of Grundy yesterday?

Vinny

Maaaaybe if Maric was out for the entire year but he isn't so I can't see myself picking him. :-\

If Maric is sidelined for the first 7 weeks then Hampson has served his purpose, the important issue here is for Hampson to push his price past the 430k mark, something which I believe he's capable of, provided he's Richmond's number 1 ruckman.

Can score well but unless I hear maric is out for 8+ wont consider either. Would hate him to average 90ish as first ruck for 2-3 weeks then maric comes back and he averages 70, and he wont have put on that much $$ with only a few good weeks.

For all those saying he dominated yesterday he still only scored 72. If that's him dominating I shudder to think how he would go against a ruck he is even with...

+, 72 against an 8 gamer, and against lynch/white in the final quarter after grundy was subbed. Even taking into account the extra players would not have scored more than 90.

Bear in mind that Hampson shared the ruck duties with Griffiths, the latter probably competing in 40% of the ruck contests. It's still uncertain as to whether Griffiths will be named, or whether Richmond will use Vickery as temporary relief. I thought Griffiths played well but I'm not sure whether it will be enough to get a call-up.

In any case, I think Hampson will be good for 80 a match, which is perfectly acceptable for a 336k ruckman.

Nige

I believe we'll play Griffo.

He's Choco's project player this year and we've persisted with him to date because he's such a good talent.

He's still young, and he's got a massive kick on him. I reckon he could definitely be a good player.

If Ivvy is out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ben Griffiths play as relief for Hammer.

We would not have persisted with him for so long without good reason he could be a real good story for the Tiges this year and cheap and a backman  :)

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, structurally I like Griffiths in the side, it just becomes a question of maintaining some form over the next couple of weeks.
