Hi Guys

Let me start by saying I have been reading this forum daily for years, and finally decided to join the community - feel like I know so much of you having been on here every day for years - so hi to all and I look forward to contributing moving forward!

This is my first draft for the season, so it will absolutely change over the coming weeks but looking for feedback on where I am currently at. Finished Top 2k last year

DEF: McVeigh, Mitchell, Hibberd, Simpson, Suckling, McDonald (Langford, Langdon)

MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Liberatore, Beams, Thomas, Michie, Polec, Ellis (Dunstan, Robertson)

RUC: Naitanui, Sandilands (Nankervis, Derickx)

FWD: Dangerfield, Franklin, Mitchell, Pavlich, Kersten, Kennedy-Harris (Bourke, Lloyd)

$0 left which is a little concerning, but I am sure that will change soon once I start to tweak this

- Bench rookies are subject to change and being named obviously
- Fwd line is the weakest with 2 rookies on field, but I have decided to stock def over fwd line for now and am not interested in Fasolo, Rohan, Higgins etc will only get them if forced to due to not enough rookies being named rd1
- I have decided to leave both Martins out (Jack & Dusty) as I think Jack is too expensive. His talent is rated beyond, but that skinny frame has me concerned. JOM was 100k cheaper and built like a brick house. Dusty I can see maintain 100avg and just feel like Mitchell/Parker for 85k less can easily push 95-105 this year
- I usually go with the cookie cutter style teams but feel like taking a few calculated risks through POD's is worth the shot, having contingency plans in place in case they backfire

Thanks in advance for the suggestions and advice :)

*EDIT - I should also mention Libba and Mitchells inclusions have nothing to do with their NAB scores - had them in for ages as I think they are great PODs who will improve this year

Ewoks

Depends on risk I guess McV -> Swallow will allow you to upgrade a Libba -> Griff
Pendles ->Watson helps with byes also combined with the above gives you $170k to play with

tor01doc

Well come. (Joke)

Strong defence takes a bit from mids - but can't have your cake and eat it too.

Libber is an interesting one. Just feel a Watson, Fyfe, Steven, Griffen, Jack etc would be better as M 3. He could go big I guess. I actually don't get to see much Footscray, so I'm not going to be belligerent about it.

Rucks are good - obviously you've read all the Grundy/HMac threads. Maybe a way to free up some money if needed.

No problems with your forward line. Mitchell vs Parker is a classic decision that could make or break your season. I like Miitchell's upwards trajectory but 2nd year etc.

I suspect you'll need to free up money to fine tune rookies.

All in all a really good team.

RaisyDaisy

Thanks guys :)

At this stage its more getting the structure right. I can make minor tweaks to change Libba to Jobe etc but as we all know rd1 teams and rookie availability are going to be a huge influence on how we finally line up

@ Ewok - Pendles and McVeigh are locked - plus I am not on board with all the Swallow hype. Prefer to see guys like that prove over the first 3-5 rounds they are worth it, and if I have to get them after a price increase then so be it

I'm comfortable going with a stronger backline for the meantime, but the back/fwd structure will depend on rookie availability

Thoughts on my logic leaving Martins out?

tor01doc

J Martin - top dollar and compared to the likes of Ellis, Tyson, Michie, Polec - hard to see him really outscoring them by a lot. Vest?

D Martin - you sort of know what you'll get. New role is a slight worry but he will be a required forward by year's end. I can't see him really getting a lot more expensive, so getting on later when you've made money is fine.

Same theory could be applied to McVeigh though.

Blues737

Hey nice team! cant see myself starting with mcveigh due to rhyce shaw returning. I would like to see how this affects his role. Parker/mitchell is a flip of the coin.

nick wilkesmann

this is a sweet team, and it's good to see you have some sort of a plan to go along with it (unlike most RMT's here).
I'd be going Parker over Mitchell for sure.

RaisyDaisy

Blues & Nick - thanks for the comments, appreciate it :)

Totally agree on McVeigh, will be watching him very closely as both Shaw and Eski could force McVeigh forward now, and part of me wants that to actually happen because I wouldn't mind downgrading McVeigh to say a Thompson/Birchall etc and using that extra cash elsewhere

RaisyDaisy

I was just tinkering around with some options. I am concerned that come Rd1 there wont be many fwd and def rookies playing, so we may need to go light in the mids (because there should be plenty of good rookies to pick from there) and load up def and fwd, and I came up with this slight change, and I still get to avoid Fasolo, Rohan etc as I just don't want them

McVeight - Thompson
Libba - C Beams
Kersten - Martin

Team would look like this

DEF: Mitchell, Thompson, Hibberd, Simpson, Suckling, McDonald (Langford, Langdon)

MID: Ablett, Pendles, Beams, Thomas, C Beams, Michie, Polec, Ellis (Dunstan, Robertson)

RUC: NicNat, Sandilands (Nankervis, Derickx)

FWD: Dangerfield, Martin, Franklin, Mitchell, Pavlich, Kennedy Harris (Lloyd, Bourke)

10.6k remaining

The more I look at this the more I love it. Mids are very light, but heaps of cash being generated and all other lines are set and forget, don't need to be touched for a long time barring injuries, meaning that my first few upgrades will all be done in the mids as the season goes on and the cows are ready to moo

Thoughts?

Blues737

I have gone for the exact opposite strategy. (still a lot to play out)
my midfield is loaded with only 2 onfield rookies. and my fwd is: danger, parker, gunston, pavlich, rohan, kennedy-harris.

Doggoneit

I lke this team a lot - but with only $10k left you dont have room to move when not enough $117k rookies get up for rd1

RaisyDaisy

Cheers lads

Part of me feels like I should just leave things like this for now, and wait until R1 comes around, because ultimately the rookies who actually get named are going to have a significant say in what structure I adopt

I have no doubt this team will change another 10 times but what do you guys think about the original team posted vs this team?

DEF: Mitchell, Hibberd, Hanley, Enright, McDonald, Laidler (Langford, Langdon)

MID: Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Beams, Thomas, Michie, Polec, Ellis (Dunstan, Robertson)

RUC: Cox, Sandilands (Derickx, Nankervis)

FWD: Dangerfield, Martin, Mitchell, Pavlich, Rohan, Kennedy-Harris (Lloyd, Kersten)

$14.1k left

I have taken Suckling out now and gone with Cox over NicNat

One of Hibberd, Hanley or Enright can be swapped for Simpson

Jobe can be swapped for Rocky or Libba

Mitchell can be changed to Buddy

Not overly exicted about Rohan but should play regularly and be a slow burn cow

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Obviously bench rookies are pending who gets named

greco272

Teams looks great.

Hibberd to Simpson (my opinion) Hamstring for Hibberd looked bad and they take while to come back to full fitness.

Cox is a great POD not many teams will have him.

Mitchell in the FWD i guess, still makes me nervous only played 12 games?

I really hope Laidler plays!

AaronKirk

Would choose Simpson to replace Hibberd, unsure about Langford's JS.

If Laidler is picked he will be in my side (come on Horse pick him!!)

Cox will be a POD this year- 578k though... surely if Nic Nat is fit you would pick him over Cox.

T.Mitch is a risk- Has massive potential and a POD but only 12 games is a major concern. Will be taking Buddy over him.

One of Lloyd, Kersten IMO needs to become Higgins/Fasolo/Lamb to strengthen forwards and have Rohan at F6.
