My thoughts will be to have each player open for bids for 1 day, with the highest bid the winner.

Will stagger the closing times a bit (otherwise some people will be constantly at disadvantage).

I.e. If Gary Ablett closes at 7pm on the Monday, Dane Swan might close on 8pm on the Tuesday, kind of thing. Will use the fanfooty clock (and having similar bids on cricket drafts, this can get very hectic with the 30 second rule, and people posting causing you to need to repost, seconds ticking by..... but that's part of the fun).

The first 50 players get individual bids, and after that we just open the market and keep doing rounds until everyone has 10 players.

If someone manages to get 10 'franchise' players well that's just good bidding. If someone doesn't get any, then that is terrible bidding.

Just a question here

How do you see the auction working - Will we all have to be on line or will it be a closed auction.

My thoughts are have each franchise put in bids on 7 players for the best 50 players (extra 2 possibly to allow double ups). Succesful bidder will pay 5% more than 2nd highest bidder.  This means you may not pay the full price preserving some of your cap.

If teams do not secure their 5 players have supplementary auction for those franchises.

Similar process for next 5.

You may have other ideas and that is fine.

Happy to discuss though!

Sounds good Oss, seems fair.

Ringo

Yes Nige Favour all on line but as we know very hard to get a time when all on line.

Maybe we work a compromise with an on line auction and those not able to be on line send a list of bids to Ossie and he executes auctioneers bid as appropriate.

Really like this one and only thought of it after posting first one.

^ this pretty much I think. Was what we did in the cricket ones ages ago.

Explain the 'list of bids' thing to me in a bit more detail?

I think it'd be like

GAJ $2m
Pendles $1.7m
Swanny $1.7m

Or something like that.

ossie85

But how do I administer those?

That's what I want to know.

Ringo

Ok to use myself as an example and not saying this is how I will go!!

We set the auction time at say Monday 8:00pm I am unavaialble

I give you a list of bids for say 8 premium players and seven others with maximum prices I am prepared to bid for polayers nominated.

Eg Making it Simple I have given you a bid for GAJ of $5m.
When GAJ goes up (and this follows for all players that you have bids for ) You state for the benefit of all I do have Auctioneers bids lodged for this player, (This way Coaches will know that you hold bids from another franchise).
Highest bid from on line is GAJ $4m You can then reveal Tigers have bidded higher and Ablett goes to tigers for $4.2m (5% above second highest bid) Conversely bidding stall at $4.9m you can enter the $5m bid from tigers and then if it goes above Tigers lose player.
Relies on Auctioneer keeping track of bid as independent or you may bring in someone else to keep track.  Just a thought if we can not get all 10 on line.

If I or any other franchises do not fill the 10 players (bear in mind we are loading 3 extra prems and 2 low priced) then we have the option of taking left over players at the reserve price.

Nige

The way Oss plans to do it, I'm fairly sure all 10 don't have to be on at the same time.

Yeah exactly. A player will be open for bids for a certain period of time allowing people to get on and bid themselves.

Once players start getting auctioned, it should a be a coaches responsibility to get on and make bids rather than relying on Oss.

Ringo

Sorry Oss missed a post of yours where you explained closing times so if I am reading you right say on day one auctions will be something like this

GAJ close 5:00pm
Pendles Close 6:00pm
Beams close 7:00pm
Watson close 8:00pm
Cotchin close 10;00pm

Just to need work out a timetable to ensure we get 100 players auctioned off eg 5 a day over 20 days is probably reasonable. Obviously for you to work out.

Ringo

Did not want to post in the bidding thread.

With 12 teams now having 10 players it is 120 players that have to be picked.

So just a question are we increasing the number of pool players with the $400k starting bid to 60 or leaving at 50 with 70 at the $100k start.

Just need a clarification for strategy.

ossie85

60 and 60 now,  good question
