I have massive doubts on whether he will get a game. The form Rhyce Shaw showed suggests Laidler was only recruited if there are injuries. At this stage Shaw is miles ahead of him.
Laidler is nearly 190cms, so he's more of a third tall, while Shaw is a rebounding defender.
One or Johnson, Rampe and Laidler will have to play, alongside Grundy and Richards.

Its possible neither get a game - there has been speculation that Reid goes down as another tall back now that Buddy is forward with Tippett, and Goodes and LRT back.

Goodes won't b back until around round 4, while I'm not sure about LRT, but he could even play back.
I still think Laidler is a good chance to line up in round one.

I agree I think round 1 he is almost 'guaranteed'. I guess I'm wondering whether he has enough JS to generate cash. Round 1 team namings have massive importance, but its worse picking that guy that plays round 1 and 2 then you never see him again (cough *karnezis* cough)
LRT could play back, but I think Sydney are keen to keep him up forward after his efforts last year. There has been nothing from the club about Reid going back, thats been media speculation based on his comparative form/progression.

The beauty of this situation is he plays in the first week of the split round, unlike any of the other rookie defenders pressing for selection. By locking in a 161k defender, downgrades should be relatively easy.

Basically if anyone under 200k in defence is named they're probably gonna be in my team, scoring potential doesn't really matter as this stage
Exactly mate. There isn't much out there I like tbh

Yeah very good point.

I know it was only nab but i didn't go much on his game, but for 160k he might be worth it but i'm still hopeful of a rookie popping up::) JS is a slight worry though.

Laidler can play tall including on the resting rucks, Shaw does not. They are two different styles of players.

Laidler is a gun that was out of favour with a specific someone at Carlton. When he was at his best, he was the general in the Carlton defense and would set up the defensive structures. Add in his versatility and he also zones off his opponent really well, he should get games. He won't average massive numbers in SC, but he is the type of guy you want in your team.

HotTiges

Yeah reckon he will get quite a few games.Reckon he was good enough at Carlton even.On board unless not selected..

RaisyDaisy

Expect to see him in a lot of RMT's over the next few days now - looking good, and could be the saviour we all need to fill D6, allowing us to bolster mids/ruc or fwd
