Bully

We all now he's a magnet for injuries but so far so good in 2014. Something tells me that Grimes will relish Paul Roos' defensive game plan and will racking up tackles by the bucket load.

So for a bit of a recap, Grimes started 2013 like he left off 2012, averaging 99.6 over the first 5 games. Injury then struck and he was out of action for the next 9 games. He started slowly upon returning but by the end of the season had returned to his premium scoring ways, averaging 91.75 over the final 4 matches.

Grimes best season was arguably 2012 where he averaged 88 for the year and played 21 matches, easily his best return over the course of his career. Notably, his last 7 games produced an outstanding average of 106.7, and would have qualified him as a top 6 defender.

This year there's plenty going for Grimes, he's dirt cheap by defenders standards, coming in at a very affordable 436k. He's got the round 10 bye, something which should be considered gold given the glut of defenders who have the round 9 bye, and he's got a coach who should compliment his game style. Melbourne's draw is also quite reasonable and when it comes to Grimes scoring tons, he tends to save his best for the worst.

There's certainly some stiff competition from the likes of Swallow and Hurn, but if you need to strengthen your defence with the byes in mind, you could do a hell of a lot worse than Jack Grimes.

I just brought him in for Swallow.  I see a lot more potential in his scoring.  He can score off half-back with ease and gets rotated through the mids.  Swallow on the other hand I don't think will be as effective off half back and won't get enough time in the mids to really score well.

A lot could change though, I still rate Swallow over Grimes if he is set to play as a pure mid.

NO!

ii think he will still get the tagging roles

Injury Injury Injury..thats what i think of when i hear this blokes name, highly doubt he will make it through a full season,
and imagine the problems he causes when he sits out for 5-10 games lol...his scoring potential just isn't worth his injury risk to me.

Being injured seems to run in the family no thanks

He will 100% not get the tagging roles. Will play off half back predominantly but will not be a tagger for a single game.

Excellent write up. I have him locked in at D4.

Jordie McKenzie tags GAJ everytime.

Roos actually knows how to coach so he won't be using one of the Dees best players as a tagger.

what if McKenzie gets injured?

you just shouldn't be stating your opinion like it's fact

In my mind I 100% believe that Grimes will not tag this year. It is my opinion. You think he may tag and that's your opinion.

I never used the word 'fact'. You did.

Ready to move on?

kilbluff1985

you said "100%" same as saying fact

no need to get worked up
