Tackling the split round

This has largely been overlooked but it presents itself as one of the great challenges leading into the new season. Last year was reasonably seamless due to a swag of viable rookies being available, and cheap ones at that. Not so this year, in fact it could become a game of Russian Roulette if one is simply hoping and praying for a cheap option to materialise on the second week of the round.

Does that make the likes of Rohan, Fasolo and Laidler all the more bankable? Will it make Nic Naitanui less attractive if he only offers up a cameo role in the NAB Cup? I ask these questions because decisions made in the first week could turn pear shaped if a piece or two of the puzzle is missing in the second. The era of high priced rookies is definitely a game changer and it would pay to have all contingencies on the table.

All the planning in the world cant prepare you well enough. Injuries, suspensions, players rested all factors that make it impossible. Keep it as even as possible and pray for the best

Sabretooth Tigers

 ;D
One thing that can and must be planned is the captain, vice captain and loopehole situation. For me that means Gazza for vice - captain with a 2nd week captain option if neccessary. Cheers.    ;)

Think the bye rounds are more important to get right round 18 is a long way off and as far as I know there is still a rolling lockout so should not be to bad as Sabre said the captains loophole is probably the thing to look at  ;)

Given Port & Collingwood play in the first week, that effectively locks out both Grundy & Lobbe if Naitanui doesn't get up in time.

The forward line could also be an issue, if people overlook Rohan & Fasolo in the first, the cupboard could be very bare by the second.

Brisbane playing in the second also presents risks, no Cutler, Robertson & Freeman could throw plans out a little.

So back to my original question, are people planning on locking in Rohan, Fasolo & Laidler if they are named?

See what you are saying and will be looking at those players round 1 but round 18 is to far off for me because they could be out of the teams by then , it's just to far away to plan for me my main concern now is round 1 cheers

You are aware that round 1 is split?

Coll vs Freo
GWS vs Sydney
GC vs Rich
Carl vs Port

then.......a week later

Geel vs Adel
North vs Ess
Haw vs Bris
St Kilda vs Melb
West Coast vs Bulldogs

I do now bully  :o you really have to pick who is named to play in the first games then as you said with Fasolo Rohan so on and as for the rest of the games hope for the best but you can't change the team you want to much because of it , saw the heading split round and just thought round 18 but at least you have made me aware of it now cheers

Southstorm

I see exactly what Bully means, I had a nice couple of paragraphs typed out about how I'd be dealing with this but then I realised I have no idea how I'm going to deal with this so I backspaced them all and I'll leave it at that.

eaglesman

have had it in my mind about a month ago but must admit i have lost track of it ... very good point

i will not be locking in fasolo or rohan .... but laidler if named i may be keen on

good post mate

Just have many multiple Plan Bs and Cs.

E.g...S.Selwood in team, his back up is M.Boyd. They play each other, sweet.

If you can, have the more expensive guy as IN so you're not looking for money with half your team locked out.

Grufflez

It is going to be a matter of holding your nerve, trusting your research and backing your decisions.

FYI..I bloody hate the split opening round..its a real problem for fantasy coaches and footy fans alike. >:(

Aaron26

is there unlimited trades after round 1 up untill round 2 like AF?

Ringo

No we have the 30 limit 2 a week. But as Round 1 is split  believe we have unlimited during the rolling lock out till round 1 finishes so will be working that to my advantage but not overly concerned as it is only round 1.

More concerned with Capt and VC Loophole. and nailing that as getting that right will outweigh any losses by rookies not named.

auscoyote

Planning on having a bit of emg cash in the bank. D6 worries me :-\
Saw exactly what your talking about a few weeks back and cant see an ironclad solution except to back your judgement!
