Mobbed my butt... These blokes need to stop playing the victim and own up to their mistakes...

Him and newman.. Think they are above the law. They need to be punished.

So you were there and saw it?
If you weren't there, then your just making assumptions.
Maybe you should keep your judgemental assumptions to yourself, unless of course you were there and have facts to share...

A bit hard for any of us to judge what actually happened unless we were present...

100% agree with you. Found guilty or not, unless you're there you shouldn't presume to know what went on.

I personally gave him the benefit of the doubt, but he's been found guilty now.

There are a lot of blokes out there who will go and try to gangbash a footy player if they see an opportunity for a number of reasons (all stemming from them being worthless pricks)... apparently this wasn't one of  those cases though.

Hmm, that's what I was thinking, heard of this happening a few times in the past.

His guilt is doesn't mean that he wasn't antagonized into lashing out. There is so much of this case that we don't know. I personally don't think it's fair for us to judge someone on the little facts we have. I myself have found myself in drunken situations where the outcome could've very easily gone the same way.

I was reading an article where it sounds like they had footage of the incident.

I believe williams personally, he'd had a confrontation with these guys in the club, so they went to go and kick the shower out of him when he left. That being said, you can't prove that was their intention- the prosecution said the guy he hit had his arms folded and subsequently wasn't being intimidating or menacing, but depending on how you fold your arms, it can be a form of intimidation.

I think he's going to cop it pretty badly... that being said, if he hadn't hit the guy I'm of the opinion that he would have had the shower kicked out of him. It was a lose-lose really, hit him and potentially face jail time/ ruin his career, or get gang bashed and potentially not be able to play footy again and/ or die.

Anyway, we'll see, that's just how I think it unfolded... not that Williams just king hit someone because he's a massive thug. Let's face it, even if you're drunk and the type of filth who just likes to smack people at random, who would go and punch someone when them and 2 of their mates are facing you, unless you think you're about to have the shower kicked out of you.

I agree with you and i think you've got a pretty good handle of the information available to us at the moment. My wife is a solicitor and she's surprised he got done for GBH on the information at hand, but as we all know they're cracking down on drunken violence. I also think he's going to cop it pretty bad, i'm guessing 18 months to 2 years jail, but again that's going off the information we've got at hand. I'm disappointed for him as i think he had a great future at Collingwood and i doubt they would hold on to him for this length of time.

They apparently had footage of the incident apparently they were threatening williams whilst in the toilets BUT williams hit the other bloke after he had left the club, he ran out of the club upto this bloke and hit him therefore it cant be self defence was he provoked most likely yes but as the law stands he still commited GBH

I've read about the footage and they way you've described it is the first time I've heard about him running out of the club.

Ringo

There are always two sides to any incidents and from my limitations on the law and being involved on jury panels it really boils down to the facts that are presented to the court and the way the jury intprets them.

In this instance and it has now only come out with release of CTV footage it does show Marley running down the steps from the club so that probably was a contributing factor to the guilty verdict ruling out the self defence response.

Agree with Zip though there are lots of idiots out there that will take any opportunity to attack elite athletes as easy targets due to their standing.

Unfortunately in todays society with the one punch can kill going on I feel Marley is facing a jail sentence.

truBLUE

Wondering if the club will play him in Nab 2 or will they sit him out till its sorted  ???

Ewoks

Given the current media attention and Govt stance on one punch attacks, added to Collingwood's off field sagas (Didak, Krakouer) in past years I cant see him getting a game till its all finalised

AFL clubs are much more conscious off public appearance these days and wont put themselves out there for criticism until its all resolved, added on to the fact hes been found guilty already and is only awaiting sentencing I give him a 5% chance of playing at the most

Dudge

Nothing to do with this particular debate, or Marley Williams, but lets call it the " coward punch ". Iv'e had it done to me, and I found it cowardly ( even though it dropped me to one knee, and flower it hurt next day ). I really don't know what happened in Marley's case, but it should be called a " cowards punch " if one party isn't looking. Just my view, and nothing to do with this case

Ziplock

Yeah, I copped a punch from behind once when walking home from the station... hurt like flower, and I couldn't see straight (although, I was blind drunk as well), I still managed to give the guy a couple back, but it wasn't a pleasant experience.

I really don't understand why people are just such  cows. If they spent as much time trying to contribute to society as they do randomly hitting people, maybe they wouldn't be such worthless tossbags.
