I know that Mr. Craig went through a while back and went through how a player fared against their first 6 opponents, see below.

Sorry if I'm breaking rules or something here, but I found a little site that goes a step further, like how they normally go at the start of a season and what their value is based on these scores.

From what I can see they've only done defenders and rucks, but maybe they'll do mids and forwards as well?

I don't know, thought some people around here might like to give it a read.

I'm all for number analysis, but sometimes you can do it too much
especially for premos, you just pick them and forget about it

maybe it'd be better to look at the midpricers (like Grimes, DSwallow, Hansen, CPearce, and others), or the players not expected to be in the final side that will get off to a good start so you can upgrade to one of those premos

Mr.Craig

I think it's important to keep this stuff in mind when formulating a Round 1 side. It's easy to say, for instance, "Pearce Hanley is now a premium scorer so I'll pick him and not worry about it" but if you look at his record against Hawthorn and at Aurora...it's not flattering. Trends are only trends and they regularly get bucked but I'd rather go in with players who have a strong history vs their Round 1 opponent rather than someone who has historically struggled.

People talk about this unlimited trades prior to Round 2 thing dumbing down the game but it's going to trip up a lot of coaches.

Granted, but I think this was meant to be a look at how a good side can be constructed by picking say a Birchall who they have to score more than an Enright, while saving 80k which can then be used elsewhere. That's what I got out of this anyway.

They do mention that every now and then, especially when they stand out like Sam Mitchell or Hanley.
