I know it's only early days in the NAB Challenge but an emerging trend is that the best rookies this year are in the MID

Apart from JKH there's not much up front and only Luke McDonald is a lock down back.

Thoughts on running Gaz, Pendles, Murphy, Beams + 6 rookies in the MID?

Your line up could look like:

DEF: Mitchell, Hurn, Swallow, Suckling, KK, McDonald (2 othe

  • rs)
    RUC: Lobbe, Grundy/Sandi
FWD: Danger, Buddy, Dixon, Dusty, Wingard, Daniher (2 other)

on this strategy i'd be spending more in defense and getting bargains u=in your forward line

i have considered only having 4 premos in the mids it all depends how many mid rookie options are named round 1

Am even considering having gaz , pendles , beams , then rookies in the middle ,
Means you can have your back line set , and almost your forward line set . .
I know mids are where the points are , but if you are playing for league win , then mid rookies are where the money will be .
Also by having perms in the backs and forwards you still have x amount of perms across the ground . .
Thoughts . .?

well if you go with this strategy you won't be very competitive in league for about 5-6 rounds and by then it may already be too late

IMO, you need to start with 5 prems and 5 rookies in mid to give you the amount of points as well as make enough money to upgrade. Fwds and Defs are too inconsistent to be starting with all prems. Some rookies may even outscore these prems early and thus you may have wasted money on a prem defender when you could have gotten a prem mid which could score double the amount of points (ok exaggerated a little but you get the point)

When you look at it you will only have 1 less gun in the mids than most teams but with the way rookies are going there would have to be some risk as you would not want 1 or 2 rookies not playing every week or that would hurt you cash making ability

This is interesting from a league vs overall position... It's looking more and more like rookies are thin on the ground and a 4 prem/6 rook (<250k) midfield might be a way to go. But what happens if you put a 100k benchwarmer at say M10, and have 5 prem, 4 rooks 1 deadweight player? Risky but you'd start faster, the trick would come with cash generation.4prem/6rook is probably a more conservative option which is in it for the long haul but if you picked the right rooks and got lucky with a mid pricer or two 5/4/1 could be viable.

In saying that I don't have the stones!  :D
